Dodgers are always active in August so I wonder who they'll target. My guesses: a backup right handed outfielder and still trying to find a lefty reliever they can fix. I think a couple postseason bench spots are wide open with the uncertainties of some players health so we might add some position players

It seems a little counter-intuitive, but someone wrote an article about it a few months ago and looking around the league it appears to hold up. It's not that Japanese players don't like each other or wouldn't want to play together, but it's a better career choice to be THE Japanese player in a market. I'm not sure what to make of Darvish though, it sounds like he is oddly in love with Arlington, so he might be a different cat. I'd be surprised if he didn't fall in love with LA though, and if we do want to make a run at re-signing him it's going to be a choice that he will highly consider.

Good point about the cash grab with a guy like Darvish because of his popularity. I remember having discussions about Ichiro - the idea that his contract seemed expensive based on his stats, but the reality is he brought in a lot of money just because of his popularity. When it comes to the business side it's not about how many wins a player brings in, it's about how much money he brings in.

If the #Dodgers aren't powerful enough, rival execs believe that by adding Darvish, they've greatly enhanced chances of landing Shohei Otani

As much as I want this to happen, that seems like a lot of payroll, assuming we need to re-sign Darvish to reap the added benefit.

Plus, there is a part of me that believes Otani might want to DH in the American League. I'm praying his goal is not to play for the Yankees or Red Sox.

Harold Reynolds: "I still think the Nationals are going to the World Series from the National League."

    Dodgers/Cubs NLCS confirmed.

Evan Grant says he looking for a huge payday so Texas become less likely to get him back. There's enough Japanese here to split the attention plus you have the added factor in that Yu is half Iranian so he can get that market. Which may also impress Yu enough to stay but it's going to be the contract demand that'll ultimately make the difference as always.

I think Yu goes to the highest bidder, and good for him on doing so. Just want a fun as hell 3 months from him. We use him to win a World Series, he uses us to improve his resume and increase his paycheck

Not an expert but they can get the compensation pick as well right?

Yeah, at this point it's hard to say if the Dodgers will even pursue him in the offseason. I truly think that Darvish being a rental with no guaranteed money after this year was a selling point for our FO. If he pitches well though, Darvish fever is going to break out in LA.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure the compensation pick gets lost after a midseason trade.

We can only hope he goes into free agent contract mode and beasts. It could be special.

Nah, i dont think this team will need him.
As great as the team has been we did need Darvish for the postseason.
Our offense though is stacked. And has more guys coming up the pipeline.
As long as Taylor is for real, Puig stays at his current level or continues to regain more of his old form... we are good.
That is with Joc sliding, Adrian slipping, Toles falling, Trayce losing his heart, Logan losing his balls, etc...
We were counting huge on those guys coming in to this year.
And we have done great without them.
Yet they are still options we have.
    Well probably not Trayce.

I think you are right. Yu came via trade so I don't think the compensation pick applies. Just a guess though.

Nope they can't. They removed the ability to get one for a rental

The rules for compensation picks have changed a lot the past couple years. I think losing the pick in a trade is one of them, but it's hard to keep up.
