"McKinney" @juanctoribio 1h #Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he hasn’t decided yet on who will start at first base. Pujols, Beaty, Bellinger and McKinney could be options.
My first thought was maybe Roberts was doing this so he wouldn't divulge anything to St. Louis. But I'm not sure he's that intelligent. Against Wainwright, Beaty should be the clear first choice.
Hate to admit this, but I'd rather them bow out tonight than lose a playoff series to the Giants. Not easy living half Giant, half Dodger territory. A lot of Giant gear has come out of mothballs this year.
I'm torn on this, and I live in 90% Giant territory. I'd hate to see us lose a series to them, and in that sense I could stomach a loss to the Cardinals easier. But one thing that has always irked me about the three Giant championships last decade is that they got very lucky and didn't have to face the toughest competition each of those years. The Dodgers are the toughest this year, so if the Giants were to go all the way, they should have to go through us.
Since I brought it up in my last post, I had to go look up the history: The numbers in parenthesis are regular season wins for the year. In 2010, SF (92) beat ATL (91), PHI (97), and TEX (90). TEX did them a huge favor by taking out TB (96) and NYY (95). PHI was their only strong opponent. In 2012, SF (94) beat CIN (97), STL (88), and DET (88). STL had eliminated WAS (98), while DET took out OAK (94) and NYY (95). Again, they only faced one worthy opponent, CIN. In 2014, SF(88) beat WAS (96), STL (90) and KC (89). STL had eliminated LAD (94), while KC somehow took out both BAL (96) and LAA (98). Once again, only one of their series wins was against a strong team. Compare that to 2020, when the Dodgers (projected 116) had to get by SD (projected 100), ATL (projected 94) and TB (projected 108). No doubt, a WS win is a WS win, and they have three of them. But their three opponents averaged 89 wins a season - that's very different than if they faced the best of the AL in those years, TB, NYY, and LAA where the three-team average would've been 96.3 wins. The saying, "To be the best you have to beat the best" definitely didn't apply in their three championships. You wonder how many rings they'd have if they didn't luck into softer opponents. In my mind at least, they'll never have my full respect and admiration for those years. And for that reason alone, it would kill me if the Cardinals win tonight and the Gnats get to play a 90-win team instead of a 106-win team in the NLDS.
fuck them personally, i want that matchup against them all the so-called experts say they’re the best, so bring em on if they beat us, then (at least to me) they’ll have earned the right to move on i won’t like it, but i’d like it a lot less losing to a 90 win team that (again, at least to me) doesn’t even deserve to be there that said… fuck san francisco, fuck st louis, go dodgers!
The Dodgers winning 106 games only to not even play in the NLDS would bother the living hell out of me. Any scenario where SF wins it all sucks but I could rest easier knowing they had to get through us instead of the Cards to do it. I really believe we are the only NL team capable of beating them and the Giants avoiding us would really annoy me. They'd wash the Cardinals like they always do and the Braves/Brewers do nothing for me.
Tonight's roster includes 4 names I hope we don't see: McKinney, McKinstry, Raley, and Souza. Also of interest, Buehler is not on the roster but Urias is.
just be grateful for no neuse sighting as for buehler, probably to preserve one starter (him) for the lds otherwise it’s all hands on deck, everyone else ready if needed
The lineup for St. Louis: 1. Edman 2B 2. Goldschmidt 1B 3. O'Neill OF 4. Arenado 3B 5. Carlson OF 6. Molina C 7. Sosa SS 8. Bader OF 9. Wainwright SP
Received wisdom this morning from the SF flag flying neighbor about 4 houses up from me...he was waiting until I passed while walking the dog. we went back and forth, me trying to be the wizened old guy who can accept any outcome maturely (instead of the ederly madman who is still willing to slash and burn over Dodgers/ Giants baseball). Invariably, the conversation rolled around to Cole, paid 324 million dollars for that really weak abomination last night...and others, who shall remain nameless. And he said " just cause they pay some of these guys an obscene shitload of money, that doesn't mean they're going to play any better"... And you know what ? He was absolutely goddam right. but it's not unreasonable to be disappointed over Cole's worst ( shortest) outing in his career...ever. if the Dodgers get to the SFags, they can beat any of them, imo, except Webb. And he will start the first game, I believe.
