Interesting about Howell's contract, his 2016 option becomes a player option with 65 games in 2015 or 120 games 2014-15. He had 68 games in '14.

Lester meeting with Chicago next week. Meanwhile. Max Scherzer's market is awkwardly quiet.

so glad ned no longer has his hand on the button
even so, i can still see him pleading his case...

    STAN: "Ned... no means no!"
    NED: "But Stan!..."
STAN: "We demoted, er, relocated you for a reason. Andrew and Farhan are in charge now."
    NED: "[muttering] fucken saber ckunts..."
    STAN: "What was that?!!!"
    NED: "uh, nothing Stan."
STAN: "Okay, then. Now get your fat incompetent ass down to the loge level and clean the restrooms. And do a fucken better job this time!"
    NED: "Yes Stan..."

Report: Former Giants P Zito will attempt comeback in '15
    CSN Bay Area | November 12, 2014, 3:30 pm

Barry Zito did not play in the big leagues in 2014. In fact, the Giants paid him $7 million so he wouldn't be on the roster. But that doesn't mean he won't play in 2015.

The 36-year old will reportedly attempt to make a MLB roster next season.

Zito spent his entire 14-year career in the Bay Area -- 2000 to 2006 with the A's, and 2007 to 2013 with the Giants. He went 102-63 with a 3.55 ERA in Oakland, and took home the 2002 Cy Young Award. He didn't fare so well in San Francisco, compiling a 63-80 record and a 4.62 ERA.

Although his tenure with the Giants did not meet the expectations that came along with the 7-year, $126 million contract he signed in December, 2006, Zito did deliver for the Orange and Black in the 2012 postseason.

In Game 5 of the NLCS, Zito tossed 7.2 shutout innings as the Giants staved off elimination by defeating the Cardinals in St. Louis 5-0. And in Game 1 of the World Series, Zito allowed just one run over 5.2 innings and the Giants beat the Tigers 8-3.

i think he's ours if we want him
he grew up a dodgers fan
his whole family are still dodger fans
not saying he'd take significantly less to come here
but, all things equal, you'd have to believe LA is his preference

In all honesty, I hate that dude. He's a punk.

And every time I hear about a former Giants player, I think we're headed to Ned 2.0.

Even if MadBum was available, I'd think it's because they found major tissue damage in his throwing arm.

Yup. I think from here on out...if the Giants don't want him then the Dodgers shouldn't want him.

Rumor has it Stanton is nearing a 10 year $300 million deal? At least that's the numbers that are being bandied about.

Wow...don't the asshole Marlins know how many Dodger lineups there were on DSP with him in for 2015? Like he was a shoe-in....since the Marlins could no way afford him.
They would spoil everything if they do this....

you obviously aren't familiar with the Marlins/Loria. Stanton could sign that deal and still be traded by next year's deadline. Lol

8:40am: ESPN’s Buster Olney hears that one possibility that has been discussed is a 12-year, $325MM contract (ESPN Insider required and recommended). Olney also wonders how the frightening, season-ending injury to Stanton has affected his perspective and influenced his willingness to accept a deal like this. As Olney notes, Stanton acknowledged after the injury that had the fastball which struck his face hit him just millimeters in a different direction, his injury could have been career-threatening.

FRIDAY, 7:39am: Stanton and the Marlins have been discussing an extension in the 12-year, $320MM range, tweets Rosenthal.
Stanton could earn something in the $35MM range for his final two years of arbitration, even without the extension, so it seems that his free agent years are being valued under $30MM per season if those exact numbers hold.

    because 300M just wasn't enough.

They'd spoil my hopes and dreams Zoo.

This sounds similar to last year though when Kershaw and the Dodgers were "discussing" a $300M contract.

Well, I never believed we were in on this guy, not even in the vapid daydreams of Ned, and much less in the mind's eye of Al-zaidi or Friedman.
If they (FL) are talking about it with him, I think he'll wind up there, with whatever level the $ fall at...or rise to.
Personally, and I have no info or solid reason why, just an inclination, but I think we will not be signing anything too big for at least a substantial while as far as contracts. Until the nerds "get it in line". What line they are talking about, who knows. Isn't it a little late to have a winner/bargain team on the field. that horse broke the gate a long time ago. As a fan, I don't give a fuck if they spend a billion.
The immediate vocal placing of a suddenly tradable Kemp is, IMO, and indication that they are willing to let this one or that one (see: Pederson) "develope" wherever they play, into hopefully, big hitters and stars...AAA stats are great and all, but lots of guys come up with killer numbers and fizzle like a wet fuze. Getting rid of about 1/3 of the offense is shaky, and we get nowhere without Kemp last year, for sure.
I think that the almost "rebuilding" atttitude for the team is a fucked up, frustrating and a patience-wearing tack for them to take. They spent the big bucks, and were close, but people they depended on and got them there just didn't do it. So, to go into this mode now, is douchebaggery.
To adopt this strategy now, after 26 years of failure, may be fodder for Billyball guys to reach their ultimate chubbies, but to a long suffering Dodger fan, it flat out sucks.
The Giants are smiling wide, like the Cheshire Cat. I wonder if Pablo is the next one who was in so many fantasy '15 lineups of ours, stays right there where he was, too, along with Giancarlo.
I hope my feelings are wrong, and we do what we have to, but I'm afraid to look.

Braves with the ultimate " you're dead to us move "..fired GM Frank Wren, then fired his brother Jeff Wren who was a scout, and now have traded his son Kyle Wren who was in AA. Lol

I don't think the Dodgers are rebuilding, but it's been proven that they need to trade one of the outfielders. I'm sure they'd prefer to trade Ethier or Crawford, but if the right deal comes for Kemp it'll be hard to say no. It's never a guarantee with prospects, but if you don't start getting younger you end up like the Phillies; and how the Tigers are going to look in a couple years.
