Something that i did notice amongst all this voting and debating about MVP, CY, Roy, etc.
Outside of Farrell, who's obviously MOY material, the Red Sox had no one up for anything, right? And yet, they have the biggest prize of all...and went out and got the ring and what it's all about.
I don't know exactly what that says, but maybe something about good players (not necessarily great ones), and guy in charge on the field who knows what buttons to push, and a GM, who just blew everyone else to the side in precise, quality and perfect acquisitions to win it all. And all that after clearing away the superstars, and reconstructing the whole team so competently...admirable, man.
    Guy knows what he's doing...

^It was a perfect storm this season for the Sox and I don't think it will happen again unless ALL the FA's come back. Napoli was huge for them and I can't see Big Papi repeating THAT performance.

I only half buy that. The Giants did the same thing pretty much, twice. They did it because they had a damn good manager, and the GM knew who to go out and get....and Bochy knew how to get the most out of what he had....enough to be world champs twice in three years. That's not an accident....that's baseball at it's best.
On the field and in the FO.

The Sox closer was only used there because their other 3 candidates for that position got hurt. The Gnats won the last time because Lincecum was so bad as a starter that they put him in the pen and he was a key contributor if not THE contributor. Bochy went from being championship mgr to the last place mgr in 1 year! Better to be lucky than good.

I think a huge factor (whathefukdoIknow) for Boston was embarrassment. I think a lot of those guys came back this year with a 'something to prove' attitude, after that abortion of a season in 2012.

Well, if winning it all is all attitude and all luck, then I guess I'm thinking wrong.
There's just no way I'm going to believe that they are the components (although I accept they both play some part in it) as what it is that makes a team win it all.
WTF is our excuse then? We certainly had attitude....and we certainly had luck.
    So?

something to prove and sans a bunch of bad contracts with little in return. totally remarkable imo.
