When he said that, about " looking the same", he meant the uniforms, not the players, boyos.
As the Jurassic Park hunter said to the velociraptor, "clever girl"...

Most will be..others will say " great move financially", or something about " depth for the future"...and the results will be the same as always.
In the hunt, possibly...make money, make promises for the future, lead in attendance, watch it all on TV in Oct.

Reading this saved me a lot of typing. I'm in lock step with you, which may force to reexamine your position.

1/3 will be pissed, 1/3 will say "meh", and the other 1/3 will be happy. We win the division. We lose in October. Rinse and repeat.

Which one of our FO fellas said " Dee Gordon isn't going anywhere " again?
I'm always skeptical when members of a FO say those types of things.

The FO will make at least one trade that shakes up the 25 man roster quite a bit. They also don't have a history of leaving us short-handed... maybe they get people we don't like or haven't heard of in two decades, but we will have bodies.

I think Turner will be our big signing. His versatility fits with the FO, he's like our Ben Zobrist. And I still don't think the perceived value of him in the league has reached his actual value.

Kenley, on the other hand, if we don't sign him we'll go to plan B. Plan B is to sign/trade for 7 former closers all coming off Tommy John surgery and in rehab. Together the 7 closers will cost us 150% of Kenley's total contract.

Turner is a 3Bman now and a damn good one. Moving him off 3B compromises his health and weakens the team, imo.

    I agree with this.

The FO has shown a preference for players with defensive versatility, and Justin Turner has that. Short term he should be signed as a 3B, no doubt. I think the versatility will make it easier for the FO to tack on an extra year beyond what they would for someone who's strictly a 3B. For a team that has been (for lack of a better term) cursed at 3B, it would be a shame to move a player who finally fields the position well. Turner should only be moved from 3B for Seager, and I'm in no hurry to move Seager.

    great post colorado
i should have also added that i think they will spend once they get rid a lot of the dead weight
here's just a few costly commitments that will clear a shit ton of payroll after 2018...

    2017:
    $94MM
$64MM next year for agon*, ethier, kazmir, mehcarthy and ryu
$30MM for former dodgers crawford, kemp and guerrero

    2018:
    $52.5MM
$49MM next year for agon*, ethier, kazmir, mehcarthy and ryu
    $3.5MM for kemp

    * agon isn't dead weight, but definitely not the player he once was, and not worth the $34MM he'll be paid the next two years

here's something i posted in another thread
and something i believe win benefit us down the road
here's some excess baggage that will be coming off the books the next two years...
◆ $94MM in 2017 for agon, ethier, kazmir, mehcarthy, ryu (and former dodgers) crawford, kemp and guerrero
◆ $52.5MM in 2018 for agon, ethier, kazmir, mehcarthy, ryu and kemp
after that, i expect the nerds will be less reluctant to open their wallet(s) here and there

    agree and agree
    but the nerds like longoria
wouldn't be surprised if they let turner walk and then made a trade with the rays

Longoria slugged over .500 this season but idk how much playing in hitter friendly environments helped. His OBP was .318 which is bleh. Already older than JT. All Turner will cost is money. He's better. Keep him. If you get Longoria he is the one who should switch positions.

longo's contract will pay him [an average of] $15.6MM for the next six seasons
    pretty good bargain... so far
if offers for turner are in that same range i could see us re-signing him
but if someone offers something closer to $20MM i could see them passing
btw longoria is actually a year [11 months] younger than turner

all things equal, i'd prefer we keep turner instead

I sincerely hope they're done playing people out of position. I can't watch Culberson or Howie types in LF anymore.

As for Turner, that dude has lower leg issues at 32 and he's going to get 5 years. I say let him walk unless you two years with an option is possible. We can't keep churning out iffy contracts right as the last batch comes off the books (Gonzalez, Crawford).

There is no clear path this offseason, we are supplying the best FA's outside of Cespedes.

Do we resign them? I honestly don't know. I have a feeling almost every player we sign will hang like an albatross down the road.

Hope Otani is posted. He can be our second ace and left fielder. If only...
