He's 30, has been a 4 win player once, played over 130 games once, and is projected by Steamer to be worth 1.8 wins over ~125 games. He's almost definitely closer to a two win player. Again I'd take him over the dumpster fire we have there now, but he's not particularly good.

 

Steamer had a similar projection before his 4 win season in 2015 and before last year when he did a 2.8 WAR while missing 35 games.
So yeah both of his last 2 years he was either a 4 win guy or playing in 4 win territory performance wise..2B is the strongest position right now in MLB, so it is what it is.
Both Friedman and Byrnes have had the player, they love him and the numbers say he is particularly good

 

Also, if we're canceling guys out because they're 30 and figuring it out later in their career..what are we doing with Justin Turner?

 

Obviously this is a straw man. I'm saying a guy who has had one good season at 30 isn't a good bet to be the player he was in that one year over the course of his career. Justin Turner has a 13 WAR over the past 3 years. And with that, he's an anomaly, so yeah, comparing guys to Justin Turner probably isn't the greatest player evaluation idea.

How many 4 win seasons did Justin Turner have before he turned 30 years old?
I wanna say none.
All that really matters is what Forsythe can do right now and the last 2yrs of his career, before turning 30yrs old, mind you ( he's still not 30, officially), he's been good.
Particularly good.
Again, it's the strongest position in MLB, there are a lot of good/productive ones out there.

Obviously I'm not shitting on Forsythe for no reason. I don't know or care about him at all. I'm just saying, which is a fact, that he isn't nearly the player Kinsler or Dozier are, doesn't have nearly the track record, and doesn't have nearly the projections.

 

No, he's not Kinsler or Dozier..I don't think anybody is saying he's a 6 win player

I guess we just have different definitions of "6 win players" as we do with "4 win players". Brian Dozier once having a 5.9 WAR doesn't make him a 6 win player to me. A six win player is a player who is routinely worth ~6 wins, not one who almost did it once in 5 full seasons.

 

Utley was a 2 win player last year..that's what 2 wins looks like.
Forsythe's proven over the last 2 seasons that he's better than that, so while he's not Dozier or Kinsler, he still represents a quality upgrade over Utley and can help improve the team..that's really all there is to this discussion

 

That's what I said, with Kershaw/Urias/Hill making ~75 starts (on the low end), this is a better team than 2016 with everything else staying the same.

Now, I don't know that I buy they are better than the Cubs, but it's fair to say they dealt with almost no injuries outside of Schwarber, they had 5 guys make 29+ starts. The Dodgers had one (Maeda).

Also not sure if either of those positions need to yield a leadoff man since Ethier will be healthy and could be in line to take that role again like he was before he got hurt last season.
Probably would be searching for that leadoff guy on days VS. LHP tho..maybe throw Puig up there if he sticks around.
5 guys making 29+ starts is incredible..last year was just the Cubs' year..they needed a break and Blanton gave it to them

He is definitely a meddler. The only deal that was really a big one was the Segura get, but that also could be kinda meh in the end. I think he is doing a good job of addressing some issues, but all their offense is gonna be on the shoulders of basically their IF. The OF is D first guys.

 

Looks like JT appreciated the opportunity to finally be an everyday player last year
Hadn't been one for much of his career..why would LAD think he could do it?
