Was hoping that we could potentially come in and sneak Chapman away, but fuck that shit. That is a Cubs team that knows it really needs to add one more piece, plus it is set at the position for years where they are giving up the prospect, so they can afford to overpay here. Doesn't matter anyway when you are blowing 8 run leads and what not.

Given what Chapman and Pomeranz have gone for, I don't see an impact player going to the Dodgers unless it's De Leon, Verdugo, +.

An underrated reliever and 4th OF type would be like some of our lower specs but yeah, keep feeling that's more like what's gonna happen.

This is not an overreaction to the Dodgers not doing a deal yet(I realize it is still early), but I have a feeling that they will not be making any significant moves and here is why. The Cubs, Kershaw's injury and stupid prices for players are probably enough to give the FO pause before doing something that would be farm altering and future season impacting. A top 25 prospect for a 2 month rental of a closer is absolute insanity. Your top 5 prospects for Chris Sale? Also insane. Joey Gallo and Jurickson Profar to get you a 4+ERA Archer? GTFO. These prices are stupid and the Dodgers currently are not one piece away from being something truly special... they are about 4. They need a SP to slot in behind Kershaw and ahead of Kazmir, they need an OF'er that could potentially move Howie back to 2B or take over RF if Puig continues to destroy his hammy's, a bullpen arm to form a hopefully dynamic duo with a now off/on Jansen and they need Kershaw to be healthy. To get 3 of those pieces in this current market, you are going to probably lose 4+ Top 10 prospects and a couple of others that would have slotted in after those other guys were moved. You're doing this with an aging team where currently your LF, 2B, 1B and 3B are under contract for at most (AGon) two more seasons after this. To make these deals happen, you are likely getting rid of your closest ready 2B and 1B(plus others) with good players not currently making it to FA. So you are then relying on the team being able to either develop someone else(currently no great 2B options, Rios at 1B is intriguing) for those positions quickly or hope for some spot fillers in the meantime. People saying "they're just prospects" also need to realize that is basically what Cubs fans were saying 2 years ago, but they've built around a very strong homegrown core. If sitting pat now means in a year, this team is ready to go to a highly rated core over a couple of lottery tickets this deadline, I'm all for it... I'd also not be surprised if the FO sits back, reassess this market and just goes for minor pieces instead of that "elite" player they originally were talking about, and I won't be mad for them doing that.

Dodgers are AWFUL against lefties this year. You'd think some of that might improve if Enrique and Trayce get healthy but, that's not a guarantee.

Looking at where they could get help, Rays have a few guys who are very good against lefties (but awful against righties). Again, these are just those type of 4th OF types they might have to look at I guess. Brandon Guyer is a dude who can play all 3 OF positions, and has crushed lefties this year. Might essentially be a good 2016 replacement of what Trayce was doing. Shouldn't be too expensive. Just a thought. Really feel like the Rays match up well with the Dodgers for a lot. Guyer, Pearce, Archer, Colome... Something can get done with multiple guys

While you make alot of sense, Kershaw's injury this year is the one thing I feared more than anything....that we would be taking good fortune for granted and waste the best years of one of the best pitchers ever just waiting for that "perfect" moment....when everything is right.

It just seldom if ever works out that way. I do believe in windows...and if Kershaw is seriously and chronically hurt....where has that window gone? Wait for another one to open with another potential Kershaw in the wings?

    When does this stop?

    Yes this mostly.

At the same time you have to win EVERY year.

Putting out a noncompetitive team is a loser madres game plan.

The young core means a HUGE amount so it's good that we're patient with players under 25 when the good ones are so few and far between. Corey has carried us on his shoulders, Trayce had more than a few clutch HR's, Joc really NEEDS to not miss so badly on his K's, Puig NEEDS to buckle the fuck down like he was since the last DL and that also means stretching out all that meat like religion

The older crew have a limited shelflife but remain largely serviceable Gonzo, Kendrick, Turner and Utley add the seasoned vet perspective that a young crew NEEDS to have around.

We'll be cool, it's a chess game not checkers

But we still NEED starting pitching
    of one sort or another

That's why you have to do EVERYTHING you can to be great every day
    which makes greatness every year
    which makes dynasties

three playoffs in a row was nice
    but if you can't close

    well that's another thing

I think the Dodgers need a bat (preferably an outfielder who can hit lefties), a relief pitcher who can man the 7th or 8th, and a starting pitcher in that order.

    • There hasn’t been any talk of a contract extension between Chapman and the Cubs, Heyman reports (Twitter link). The trade is “looking likelier” but still not finalized, Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Passan tweets. Torres is one of “multiple” Cubs pieces that have been agreed upon as part of the deal.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets that if the deal is completed, there will be “much more” than just Torres and another prospect in the deal.

    Jesus...

If they don't sign Chapman this could very well be Colon for Cliff Lee/Grady Sizemore/Brandon Phillips all over again.

The market is insane right now. I don't even want to think what it would take to pry a top flight pitcher or hitter right now.

Trading an upcoming FA in a department where you're strong at (Miller, Bentances) for a couple of top prospects.....wow. Yankees are huge winners in this deal.

Are we still getting the "elite" player/players like Dodger Daddy promised?
    Are we getting anybody?
I'd settle for just a healthy Clayton Kershaw back. And deal with what we've got.
But the constant "there is no time frame for his return" is sounding more and more ominous with each time I hear or read it.
It's 2016, they should have some more onfo than that regarding his prognosis.
    Idk...

Even if Chapman doesn't return to the Cubs, they're not gonna be hurt much by it.
They'll just sign Kenley and keep it movin.
Like CKWG said, that top spec they're sending is blocked anyway.
