While the Ohtani headline is attention grabbing, I do believe that the UCL sprain and PRP injection were disclosed to all teams.

They got a guy who is probably worth close to 20 million per year for a 2 million signing bonus and 6 years of team control. Even if he has injury concerns, it's worth the gamble.

You don't have to be a reporter to have sources. I had a source within the Dodgers like 6-7 years ago, I'd occasionally post it on ESPN if he was really certain about something (at that time it was all divorce shit). Just cause they are bloggers (good ones to boot), I wouldn't discount them unless they did this routinely.

The LA Times had it all with Jim Murray, then Mike Downey and Allan Malamud, before they were all gone in short order.

They went off the table with Adande and now Plashke leading the section. I don't even subscribe anymore since there's wayyy better reading material for the can elsewhere.

    Of course you don't
I'm just saying until their sources give them proprietary information that leads to them actually breaking a story, they'd be better off sticking to commentary.

I’d rather do that next year when Harper/Machado/etc are out there and the payroll drops to like $100M.

Memory serves didn't Kenta and Iwakuma have those concerns attached to them as well and they have thus far avoided TJ. I will say however if it's going to happen to anyone it's going to be an Angels pitcher.

    mlb trade rumors...
    • It is “fair to say” that the Dodgers’ 2018 payroll will be lower than $237MM, president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman told MLB.com’s Ken Gurnick and other media. Exceeding that figure would balloon the team’s luxury tax rate to 95 percent and drop their position in the June amateur draft back by 10 spots. Counting arbitration projections and money owed to players no longer on the roster, the Dodgers’ payroll stands at over $208MM for next season, so they do have some room to make upgrades though it seems unlikely that they’d take on any major salary commitments without first unloading some of their existing big contracts.
    • Also from Friedman, the Dodgers are prioritizing bullpen additions. Starting pitching doesn’t seem to be a need, as Friedman likes their current rotation depth and wants to give younger pitchers “a soft landing spot in the big leagues to go through their acclimation process. We have a talented enough group to ride that out a little bit.” As Gurnick notes, this makes it seem unlikely that L.A. would re-sign Yu Darvish. Of course, the Dodgers did make a push for one very notable starter in Shohei Ohtani, though that was a unique circumstance due to Ohtani’s minimal costs.

"Soft landing," meaning a lot of short starts. Sure as hell better stock that pen.

A burnt out, overworked, and eventually ineffective pen seems to go together with the Dodgers like birds of a feather...the new, LAD - led minimal SP turns for about 5 innings approach.
And the one guy who really made it work at all, is on the Cubs now.
Does it seem apparent to anyone else that the summation of the Dodger verbal diarrhea that we've heard so far is why they couldn't sign one player after another?
And it's all "that's fine" with mostly everyone?
Sounds like they're pissing on our heads and telling us "oh...it's raining".

I think CO and the Cardinals are already better than last season, and plenty of time left for them and whoever else to improve.
You just get so many chances go win it all, and to think that the Dodgers "elite" status, resulting in overconfident gloating by so many, is a guarantee we are back in the WS next year ( and beyond) is pactum factum, could be a sobering mistake.

Curious: why do you think CO and Cardinals are better? Honestly asking.

And oh, I don’t think the Dodgers have an easy road to another World Series cause the Nats are still really good, the Dodgers are relying on injury risk type players, the Cubs talent could explode and the DBacks could improve if they don’t blow up their team... but, as it stands right now, LA is still a step above the rest

Whatever makes the Central tougher for the Cubs, I am ok with. Cards are still a bit behind the other top tier teams in the NL.

Rockies are on the verge of re-signing Greg Holland. Should be interesting to see how there bullpen does as both McGee and Holland really fell apart down the stretch.

How much would it cost Guggs luxury tax wise to buy Kershaw a heart?
We're pretty much a Kershaw heart transplant away from a WS ring, so if that's the 1 transaction the FO makes, we're good.
I blame the nerds, need to embrace their inner Doogie Howsers and fix Kershaw already

Ozuna to Cards is done. Be interesting to see what they sent back as they were apparently had the best package for Stanton as well.
