If the Dodgers could acquire one player at the deadline, who would you prefer?

  1. Machado

    43.5%
  2. Front line starter (degrom, thor, et al)

    56.5%

Probably better off moving Seager to 3B and JT to 1B to shore them up as they age.
    Taylor/Culberson at SS.
    Bellinger in LF
Which leaves 2B open for... Viva Villar!
Look, as much as you hate these brewer guys they would really make our lineup so much better at the least amount of prospect cost.

    CF: Puig
    LF: Braun
    1B: Turner
    3B: Seager
    RF: Bellinger
    SS: Taylor
    C : Barnes or whatever
    2B: Villar/Culberson/Logan

Regarding the 2B/OF issue, yes they should and will pick up the option on Forsythe because unless they add an OF (I expect them to) and Verdugo forces his way onto the roster in camp, you can't bank on Toles and/or Thompson to take the 3rd OF spot. By keeping Forsythe, you have some assurances about your OF (2/3s of it anyway) and a potential asset if Verdugo forces his way onto the roster.

So the big question for me is do you go for it for Stanton?

    no
    we have a productive rf
and we don't need to tie up salary like that for one guy
same goes for harper and votto
i still say we have the best team in baseball and could/should have won the ws
imo they just weren't managed as effectively/intelligently as they could have been

i know i would be in the absolute minority but better managing decisions get us home
i talk to a whole lot of other baseball guys from different markets and everyone of them couldn't understand some of the moves
maybe the FO should be MORE involved in the case of dAvEY
he remains clueless from everything i've read btw
people saying he should have started CK are stupid but w all those options there was no reason to let yu burn on the mound
if any position needs an upgrade thats the one imo

I agree in that Dave definitely screwed the pooch a couple of times in the World Series. Luckily he seems to reflect on his poor decisions and tries not to make them again in the future. You can't be this lucky, but had we had one more arm in that pen that is producing at the time of that series, we probably win. Having the 3 gas cans in there of McCarthy, Fields and Stripling forced him to overuse guys and he didn't know how to maneuver around outlying issues that arose. Apparently he is not anywhere close to getting shown the door by this FO, so maybe Geren getting the heave-ho could be an idea for someone that is more capable of thinking on the fly. I think that is doubtful too, but it was an idea that crossed my mind.

Bellinger has elite range and athleticism for that position. Definite gold glove caliber

Stanton can play LF. I want consistency. 59 bombs is pretty consistent

They made a healthy amount of $$$ this World Series. Use it to get better. This can be our version of the Warriors getting KD

Nope. I had the idea of moving Grandal to a 3rd team to get Christian Yelich, or another young OF, doesn't have to be a 3-team deal.

yeah, they're not going to do it
signing high-priced guys like stanton and harper go against everything they've preached from day 1
they're also looking to lower payroll (to avoid luxury taxes) not raise it
friedman et al are more interested in finding the turners, taylors and morrows of the world
and it's hard to blame them
this team, as currently assembled, was good enough to get to the ws and arguably should have won it

That would be a dream scenario however he's not on the block in this case. The Marlins want to get under $90 million and Stanton is obviously the big contract.

It is not going to happen, but I wouldn't hate it if they somehow got him for LF, were able to keep Puig in RF, make the deal using any prospect not named Verdugo/Buehler, sent back Kazmir and McCarthy AND the Marlins ate $15 Mil of his contract between 2021 and 2026 so that his yearly salary never eclipses $28 million. Over 10 years (assuming is club option is not picked up) that makes it so he has to average 4 WAR per season to make it a worthwhile contract. So, no fucking chance in hell.... fun to dream though!

Sure, but not in 2017. And GG caliber can wipe my ass. Ethier has a GG.
Your offense is taken into consideration for the GG.
Bellinger is nice but he is not slick and that is an experience thing. He has all the makings of a great 1B and is very good now.
But like Seager he still has certain tendencies that need to be fixed.
Seager has shitty dives and Bellinger has shitty feet.
And by shitty i mean not perfect. Which is still better than most.
If we can get another 40HR guy in the lineup at 1B even if he is a dumb slow as a rock guy it is worth it.
We can move this big 40HR guy to LF or even CF if need be.
Or hell maybe you bring in that 40HR 2B from the Twins and have Seager at 3B, Turner at 1B and Taylor at SS.
With Puig, Bellinger, and Stanton in the OF :D

    Offense and Defense solved.

So, I was fucking around with the numbers and he has $295 Million guaranteed still on the table over 10 years. He just had a career year with a 7.6 WAR this past season. If he put up the exact same WAR for 5.5 years, that contract would have paid itself off midway through his age 33 season. Extremely doubtful that he can continue insane numbers like he did this year, so let's say he drops to a mere 6 WAR per year average. It would then take until year 7, into his age 35 season, for the contract to be worth it. This is all banking on the hope that he doesn't get hurt(which has happened often) and he doesn't regress after his age 30 season(likely to happen due to his size). The worst thing that could happen is this was more of an outlier than the norm. Say he drops to the average WAR player he was since his second year in the league. 4.6, and you are eating close to $30 Mil in dead money. That really is a bad contract and I just can't see this FO taking that on without a DH spot to put him in.

Not hoping for it but I saw a brief headline about the thought by a writer. Getting under that 90 number is the key to any deal because the prospect haul would be lessened a little but still big if that makes sense. We shall see if there is ANY talk about it.
