I honestly don't think this happens without the Dodgers getting in excess of $100M in relief over the life of that contract. It's also why I think it is still very unlikely that he is traded this offseason, or at least to the Dodgers.

Darvish fits so much more of a need than Stanton and would cost half the money, half the years and no prospects. Stanton’s contract has a chance to be one of the worst in the game.

Is the reason no one here wants him solely the World Series? If so then do you all want Kershaw gone when he opts out next year?

    That's excessive frugality, imo.
Now is the time to get him.
He won't cost any less next off-season and he'll be a year older.
    Now or never.

Cole Calhoun is a piece. Andrelton Simmons was a 7 win player last year, and while not sustainable, he is damn good. Garret Richards is a pretty good pitcher. Re-tool their bullpen and they are a contender

    He just added
"Source: #Dodgers willing to trade any prospects not named Walker Buehler. That’s not the issue though. The issue is getting the #Marlins to take back salary in return like Kazmir or McCarthy #StantonWatch"

This kid is definitely not 100% all the time(nobody is), but he nailed those contracts last year over a day before anybody else had it. He's worth keeping an eye on.

    I disagree w/VRP

    racist

I think even if the Marlins eat 5 million per year and take just one short-term bad contract (Kaz, Gonzo*ntc, or Brandon), Stanton will be worth the investment and less risky than it seems (if that's possible with a 10 year deal)

Uh, Trout, Calhoun, Simmons all produced in 2016......any idea what their record was??? 74-88. Their pitching sucks and is never healthy.

Giants among teams showing interest in Domingo Santana
by Jeff Todd | MLB Trade Rumors — 12 minutes ago

The Brewers are “getting hits” on quite a few outfielders, according to a report from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (Twitter link). That includes Domingo Santana, who has been pursued by teams including the Giants.

It’s hardly surprising to hear that rival organizations are prodding the Brewers to move an outfielder. The team has numerous talented players that fit several different profiles. Veteran Ryan Braun is unlikely to be traded, per the report, due at least in part to his no-trade rights. But with a few other roster needs and other areas to upgrade, it’s certainly reasonable to think that Milwaukee is amenable to considering a move involving some of its other outfielders.

Santana is likely the most valuable player of the bunch. He’s just 25, is controllable for four more seasons (one of them at the league minimum), and is fresh off of a season in which he posted a .278/.371/.505 slash with thirty home runs in 607 plate appearances. If the team prefers to keep the established asset, it might consider swaps involving Keon Broxton, Lewis Brinson, or Brett Phillips, each of whom could conceivably be a long-term answer in center field for the Brewers or another team.

Of course, that doesn’t mean the Brewers are offering up any bargains. As Brewers GM David Stearns told MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy today (Twitter link), the club is not exactly anxious to pare back its depth and can still option Brinson and/or Phillips. There’s no question whatsoever that Santana, among others, would only be dealt if the Brewers felt they were receiving compelling value — likely, in a manner that would allow the team to improve both now and in the future. Milwaukee is most clearly in need of starting pitching.

Santana makes for an interesting target for the Giants, who could also compete with the Cardinals for the best outfielders on the free agent and trade markets after being spurned by Giancarlo Stanton. San Francisco is clearly working through a variety of possibilities now that the Stanton deal won’t be happening. Rosenthal also notes that San Francisco has maintained its interest in free agent outfielder Jay Bruce, and MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand tweets that the same holds true of Lorenzo Cain.

So... Chris Ianetta is back with the Rockies. Really hope last year was just a blip on the radar and that he suddenly hasn't figured out how to tap into his power potential. Guy was a major pain in the ass last season.

I wouldn't say no one here wants Darvish, but either way it really doesn't matter. What's in front of us right now is our FO trying to improve an offense that checked out in the WS for the most part.

I do know one thing nobody here wants, and that's to see Kike Hernandez batting cleanup in the playoffs again. It seems like Stanton himself doesn't want to see that shit either.

Word on the Stanton sweepstakes now is that the Marlins are probably going to take this through the Winter Meetings next week and try to generate more interest. Probably not the worst thing in the world for them to try and figure out a little more what they have in terms of interest for Ozuna, Yelich, Ziegler, Tazawa, Volquez and Prado before getting stuck on numbers with Stanton. Could probably pair some of the shittier contracts with the good cheap players.

Man. That's a solid addition. He went to the right place to keep hitting

All good. When it comes to big impact additions, I suspect LAD will mainly be maneuvering through trades, so nothing really gets held up for them free agency wise. Probably still gonna be in on Britton while the stuff with Miami continues and I have to assume Archer/LAD talk is coming. If LAD really does have Puig on the trade block maybe some package can be built for Archer. Drop Yasmani in there too for Wilson Ramos. Ramos in a contract year as well, but of course not nearly as productive as Yasmani recently, so Ramos wouldn't come with a big demand for ABs or playing time. Would give LAD an experienced backup catcher in case Barnes hits a skid as the majority guy.

Which reminds me..Stanton shit on Boston too. He's been great.
Sort of like Paul George and Lonzo turning their noses up at the Celtics this summer.
Wait til we find out that Lavar Ball is Stanton's mentor Lol

LOL how is Darvish a fit? Do we have a need for a postseason choker?

His WS performance is the main reason. Dude wasn't just bad in the WS, he was historically bad. Like Kershaw bad X 1000. It might be different if he was lights out during the season, but he was regressing with Texas before the trade, and had a handful of decent starts with us but nothing lights out. And honestly, at this point I wouldn't cry if Kershaw opted out and left us either... I'm still hopeful he turns it around in the 2018 postseason, he's Kershaw, he doesn't deserve to be compared with Darvish ever. Darvish needs to go pound sand.

Worst take ever, Vince. Even bad for you.

They are burning through Trouts early prime and might lose him to FA dude to the albatross of the Pujols deal.
So maybe they need to try and make shit happen creatively.
Let the guy hit for a year, its not like the Angels are a playoff team.
If the gamble works they become an instant contender. Only a spot from the playoffs last season.
If it does not work then what do they lose?
    Nothing.
    Best explanation I got.
