Granted, Seager will never be an Alfredo Griffin or Raphael Furcal at short, but what I saw last year, particularly in the playoffs, was a reliable fielder who was consistent at the routine plays. If we start moving him around - first base for example - we displace another player with power potential (Muncy?) that is not easily replaced at shortstop. So the team gains a defender at short who makes incredible plays, but loses at the plate. Okay, maybe you sign a Lindor or Baez... or maybe you're stuck with a Miguel Rojas. I just feel it's easier to find a low-priced first baseman who can get you 18-20 HRs and 70-80 RBIs than a low-priced SS who can do the same. I hear your call to spend wisely... but I agree with CKWG: if Corey can back up his 2020 numbers with similar success over a full 2021, he will be a wise spend (within limits).

    you’re not alone
he was supposedly throwing real well last spring before opting to shut it down
especially since he’s not being asked/expected to be a front of the rotation guy
    following buehler, kersh and bauer...
he could be a big surprise

Proof of shortened season reliability does not equal to faith in full season reliability.

That's true, and the Dodgers are fortunate to have a full season ahead of them before having to commit, and it appears they intend to use it.

I'm with you on this - excited to see if the former CY winner with a year's rest can turn back the clock. I truly hope he does. He just has a shorter leash in my book due to A) opting out last season while the rest of his teammates showed up for work, and B) one of Gonsolin (2020 ERA: 2.31) and May (2020: 2.57) getting bumped for him. If he starts slow, it's going to be difficult to continue watching him take the mound with those guys staying in the pen or AAA. But maybe I'm being too hard on him, considering he did the Dodgers a favor... they clearly didn't need him last season and it knocked a year off his contract.

rube, seven years in and you're still an enigma to me.

Which is exactly how it should be. Some aren't meant to be figured out.

They say 7 is a Loki number.

DH is coming to the NL soon enough so Muncy wouldn't be displaced. And if he is so be it. He was terrible last season. Stepped it up in the post but so did Joc and Joc's gone. Muncy can go too if Seager needs 1B

Should add that if Seager does a .950 OPS over a full MLB calendar it'll mark the 1st time he's ever done it. The 1st time Seager did over .950 he did it in 2015 when he came up for like 30 games. He seems to be the king of the 30-50 game stretch. His best mark over a full calendar is about .880 and that was 2016. Rooting for him but it's clearly a stretch that he'll power through a traditional slate

And wouldn't sleep on the possibility of actually landing Lindor either. Safe to say precedence is pretty well set now when it comes to FO offseason aggression and their willingness to upgrade. If the Mets don't handle their business I see LAD at the front of the line because it's just smart business

Also wouldn't sleep on the Trevor Bauer addition potentially aiding LAD in a Lindor chase. Lindor vouched for Bauer and did his part to try and get him over to the Mets but it's the lightweight Mets. Former Tribe buddies may find themselves in a similar situation next offseason with Bauer potentially doing his part to help the FO pull Lindor over to LAD. At the very least we should hope that guys like Lindor and Javy Baez stay uncommitted so that LAD will have some leverage over Boras/Seager and can get a reasonable extension done at some point. Cheap or not, having Lux around isn't really enough leverage over Boras/Seager

    Dontrelle Willis ??? Holy shit.
I sure hope he has nothing to do with their physical development...he was a career ending shoe-in with that stupid motion of his.
A disaster lying in wait...someone in the FO must owe him money or some shit.

Eh, his issue was overuse. Dude averaged 211 innings per year for the first 5 years of his MLB career while averaging roughly 100 pitches per start... and that includes multiple stinkers per season that brought the average down to around the 100 pitch mark. McKeon and Girardi did him dirty.

Imagine if Pollock can stay healthy for an entire season. I didn't realize this until just now, but in 2020 he posted the highest OPS in his 9-year career. His numbers projected over a full season at around 40 HRs and 80+ RBIs. Yeah, he made it through 60 games... what's the chance he would have lasted 162? Pretty slim, based on his history... but IF he can avoid the injury curse this year, and IF Lux breaks out, this lineup could be absolutely absurd.

Probably right...but that silly motion contributed to his breakdown, for sure.
It's all water under the bridge, and hopefully nothing of his mechanics gets imparted to our younger pitchers.

    Just like Tim Lincecum.

That mother fucker was lights out but his motion definitely contributed to him burning out early

If - Pollock can get through and be as productive as he's ever been again....
A career .172 AVG/.243 OBP/.279 SLG line through 7 postseason series is what awaits him in the fall
Very little optimism here if any at all. Guy's nuts clearly shrink with the chips down.

They would have to wrap Pollock in styrofoam and bubble wrap, and keep him away from ladders, black cats, cracks in the sidewalk, rest him on Friday 13ths.....and then it still would be a lost cause.

Zero optimism. And they don't need Pollock to win a WS so not even about to trick myself into thinking he's gonna do some noteworthy shit when it really matters. Gavin Lux has as many career postseason HRs as AJ Pollock Lol

What I will do though is just hope Lux can take 2B and lock it down so that Taylor can move to LF and lock it down. Fuck Pollock. Very similar to my feelings on Jansen. Hoping other starters can lock their slots down in the rotation so that one of them can eventually/potentially slot in at the closer role. Fuck Jansen too

I share your lack of optimism that AJ can stay healthy. I don't share the sentiment that he can't contribute significantly IF he can stay healthy, even in the playoffs. Let's just say he's overdue for a big postseason. And I'm not even a big Pollock fan, but I am impressed with last year's truncated-season numbers.
