In hindsight, it seems like everyone around him, including ESPN that had a lengthy tribute all up and ready for him, and Stuart himself, knew he was fighting a losing battle. Beat it twice before, but it just kept coming back.

Codge. My point is, a direct link (IMO) shows the article or whatever it was. Or it could have easily been copy or pasted.

I try very hard to not create double work. Therefore I reject it.

And ESPN message boards are dead to me.

    Or........

tell me the signing and I will still stand by it for whatever reason. Good, bad or to be purposely indifferent.

I'd rather see them sign Sanchez or Lohse.

    Greinke is a head case.

Number is inflated because of 5.8 era in a full season his second year in the league.

And he pitched in the AL. It is safe to doc half a point of ERA in the NL and a little more in Dodger Stadium.

Matt Cain = 3.27 career ERA worthed 150 mil

Greinke pitched in AL most his career except 1.5 season = 3.77 ERA

Yes Greinke is worth that much.

Greinke is not worth more than 18mil a year. 24-25mil a year is pure greed and stupidity.

I will say, to any dodger fan that wants to say Greinke isn't worth it, shut up. For all these years we complained and vented that we couldn't get anyone. Now we are getting quaility players yet you are asking for players that have been evaluated as not being as good for less money. It's not your money that is being spent. Just shut up, go to the yard and support the ball club.

I also agree, with the guy that said he's a head case. That is just insulting to anyone that has suffered from diagnosed mental health issues. He had depression with counseling and medication, he will be just fine.

Dodgers for life and welcome Mr. Zack Greinke! Great move by the Dodgers...

I agree Ive never been that high on Greinke, its been said but the guy is a head case, and outside of his 1 fantastic year, he's never been close to a cy young since. Not to mention in his 3 postseason starts he has gotten rocked. They need to get the real ace and stud Kershaw locked up now, pay the man whatever he wants. I would have rather locked up Kershaw and went after someone like shields. Hey we all like to think with ownership money grows on tree's now,but whatever happened to spending it smart? Sure its not my money but I dont want this team ending up like the Yankees or Red sox of today, having to slash payroll because of years of over spending. Just because you have it, doesnt mean you have to spend it and I think thats exactly what this move is. Will Greinke be a solid number 2? You bet he will, but I think there were other comparable options to be had without having to shell out another bloated contract (im looking at you Andre)

Dodgers don't have the resources to trade for Shields, buddy.

Greinke's a really good pitcher that's AL tested. he just put up a 2.00ERA and went 5-0 with the Angels down the stretch when they were trying to make the playoffs.

i keep seeing people complain about the money. Dodger ownership controls 125 billion in assets and are set to make 240-280 mill a year from their new TV deal. they can spend freely. they're on a 5-6 yr plan with this core... all of the new guys are 28-31yrs old. and while they're going for it for the next 5yrs on the field they'll be investing in the international market and drafting/developing a the farm system that McCourt tore down. stop questioning people that are more qualified than yourself.

The Rays have been kicking tires on Dee Gordon for weeks They need a SS bad, now the other pieces the rays would ask for who knows. The fact Coletti now has a huge cash flow to work doesn't scare anyone given his track record on signing players.

Now onto Greinke being a head case, the guy melts down when something goes wrong on field. Its reported he doesnt like to go over film and gameplans with his catchers. Not to mention he had trouble one spring training locating his pitches and what does he do?? He takes the year off!! Because he mentaly broke down.

Again the issue is not to spend money its again how they spend, and spending it on a guy who could easily crash and burn and then sit out another year because he cant handle the pressure. Not to mention he's coming to LA on the heels of signing one of the biggest deals for a pitcher, just makes me nervous on a guy as flakey as Zack

Now its rumored he can opt out of the deal after 3 years. Now that may be the best part of this deal.Because he will opt out and cash in just like CC did, so if he does have 3 fantastic years he bolts looking for another huge payday.

Try reading up on the subject matter Sheriff. The incident you spoke of happened in 2006...BEFORE he underwent treatment and medication for his condition. Since then there has been NO PROBLEM that I have heard of. Also since then he has won a Cy Young award. And if you're going to go on sources like "it's reported" then ...it's reported that you are a child molester. Also, give me one instance of where he has "melted down" when something goes wrong on the field.

Say what you want to say about the money or length of contract, but don't talk crap about issues you don't have a clue about. You may have your opinion, but don't try to pass it off as fact.

I respect what you're saying and I should have used the term "rumored" rather then reported.. But I still feel given his mental issues, combined with his career numbers and this huge deal, this has the potential to blow up in the Dodgers faces. I hope it doesn't it, but its possible. Not to mention he doesnt care much for media or fans bothering him, LA media is a little different from Mil and KC, although he faired well in Anaheim. Although he says he self medicates now with mixed results perhaps that helps.. I wish the guy luck but im not heads over heels for this guy like everyone else seems to be.

As far as a melt down goes he did have one last year against the Astros, he could not beat out the runnner to first then got upset spiked the ball into the dirt and got tossed then walked off the field muttering to himself.

If you want to call that a meltdown then go ahead. To me it was a guy being competitive and getting mad at himself for not being able to make the play. The truth is the ump over-reacted to the spiked ball and Grienke never should have been thrown out of the game, and to his credit, Grienke didn't argue but accepted the ruling, which would make any body mutter. For comparisons sake, was it a meltdown when Clemens threw the piece of broken bat back at Piazza?

The only thing that worries me about this deal is the length- 6 years is a lot for any pitcher. But I suspect his performance will be as good or better than his career numbers for as long as he stays healthy.

i dont mind greinke, and i dont mind what they are going to pay him.. what i mind the length of time they signed him for. 6yrs? smells like trouble, and this guy could easily become the second coming of jason schmidt

If Grainkey is a solid #2, and if Sanchez or Lohse are signed. Does that make the Tin Man a "solid" #6?

It's almost 2013...the Dodgers have the money....and the tv contract is on pace to pay them largely in the future....Signing greinke or ryu or anyone they sign from here on is exactly what u would do if your team fell into a money pit...sometimes you have to crawl through the mud (the McCrackhead phase) to come out the other end smelling like roses....We've earned this Dodger fans

Please tell me where I was wrong? He's certified and no one will deny it.

He'd be teh first to agree.

    That's what makes him Grainkey.

Does Codge still stand by his sorry ass mocking of my 'One Armed Man' jersey with his "Stud" jersey for teh Tin Man?
