The Rockies could have been set up to be incredibly scary for the foreseeable future with this core of good young pitching, plus their good-great MIF prospects that have come along. Instead they pay guys like Desmond and Parra way above market value and shit away tens of millions of dollars on bullpen arms that aren't even on the playoff roster.
There's always a core of young pitching that goes to Denver to die. Wake me when they sustain anything pitching wise. Even Marquez..he's gonna have to get the fuck outta there sooner or later to save himself. Purely speaking from a Dodgers' fan POV, I'm never incredibly scared of the Colorado Rockies. I look at what the Dodgers have built and think ROX fans should be incredibly scared of this LAD machine. That said, the ROX have spent poorly and they can't afford to miss as much as LAD.
Rockies really are a joke... even just for this season, they had their best chance to win the division and go far in a weaker NL, w/ peak performances from their starters and left side of the infield... and instead, all they do at the deadline is get 1 middle reliever and Matt Holliday's corpse. Imagine that team with 1 or 2 of D. Murphy, Freese, Granderson, Smoak, Pham, Voit... Some of those names are average but even an average hitter is way better than the shit they put out there. They were really just satisfied with a playoff type appearance
And given the way LAD has built itself up and attacks at the deadline in recent years, it'd be pretty justified if Arenado were counting the days until he can jet
yeah exactly, how many years are they gonna have the Dodgers operating under luxury tax constraints? It's hilarious that the one team in the NL West that already had the most talent AND the most recent division success is the one that tried the most. Fuck the other teams for not trying
I definitely would not say that. The prior FO geared the farm to be all bats to out hit everyone and really the plan was to find guys that pitched well here to sign when they were FA's. O'Dowd has even said that they never really looked to figure out a formula for pitchers and the goal was to out hit/out last. New FO feels they have an idea of the type of arms that can succeed here and the farm is now geared towards that. Jimenz and Morales came out of nowhere to dominate, but Morales truly wasn't anything special once teams realized he couldn't throw a strike and they just abused Jimenez and wisely sent him out the first sign of trouble. These past couple years have legitimately been the first time I can remember people talking about the pitching down in the Rockies system and how good it was.
My only guess is that the owners tightened the financial noose cause it makes no fucking sense. Or honestly, this GM could be one of those guys who is too fucking proud to admit when he has royally fucked up. Item A. Desmond, Item B. Parra, Item C. The Bullpen guys not even playing.
Giants tried about as much as any 100 loss team could or should, I guess, but they went about it the wrong way. Ultimately, they were fucked anyway because LAD is just too far ahead right now. If you're Goldschmidt, Arenado, Bumgarner..a top player in the NL West that doesn't play for the Dodgers, but has an opportunity to get out of the NL West soon, I'm not gonna blame you if you're tired of LAD leading the pack.
They are fucking booing? That is some weak ass shit from fans that should honestly just be thankful to fucking be there.
They've gotten their hands on young arms in the past. They weren't talked about this much, but they had their moments. Ubaldo wasn't hyped a bunch, but he was filthy regardless and would've been better off elsewhere..Francis was one of the best lefty specs when he came out and Chacin has stuff. Chacin is loving it in Milwaukee. They've been so geared towards trying to develop change ups because of what they deal with there. Marquez was a hell of a buy for them and Tampa doesn't even have Dickerson anymore
yeah the booing is bush still the fans that have stayed deserve a free beer or some shit thought it was going to be 10-oh
This is the ROX team that had a negative run differential going into the final week-2 week stretch, for sure.
