good point and i hadn't even thought of it from this side then again, maybe kasten and amaro have some sort of backroom/handshake deal -- "if you let us take mag, we'll trade you lee"... yeah, that's the ticket
I doubt the two are related, a 6 year deal for a 26 year old 3/4 starter that could end up in the bullpen, and a 34 year old 1/2 starter that will garner you 2 top prospects and another decent piece or two. One is more for the long-term, and Lee is only in Philly for at most 2 more years.
fwiw... Passan notes that, with the option, Gonzalez's deal would be bigger than the $56MM the Rangers gave Yu Darvish, and the guaranteed portion is already much more than the $42MM Yasiel Puig received from the Dodgers. __
here's a reliable one Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports writes, the Phillies' additional starting pitching depth might allow them to deal another starter, possibly Cliff Lee. __
He reminds me of a deal Claire made for a similar crafty lefty named John Tudor. What happened that season?
Pretty much. All we can do is hope they lose every game between now and the deadline, tonight should be a start as they are facing Max Scherzer, and hope ATL wins a few to widen the lead.
6 in a row! Time to stock cupboards! Papelbon, lee, ruiz young and utley if the deal is right! Honestly this is what I've wanted for a month now
More like the amaro way....he's had alot of good moves, but hes is hard headed as fuck and goes waaaay overboard when negotating contracts
I find it odd that Rich Smith guy keeps tweeting about the Dodgers' interest in Lee but no one else is saying anything.
Crasnick and Stark from ESPN have been sited as sources in the below articles, but they don't mention the Dodgers by name. It's pretty much assumed though that if their are discussions going on, the Dodgers are involved because of their willingness to take all of the salary Phillies, Rangers Have Discussed Michael Young Phillies To Listen To Offers On Cliff Lee
