Re-caption: Dum Dum: Hey Bochy. This is a good time. You're looking good man. Bochy: Thanks Donnie. It's easy though. Dum Dum: How is that: Price: Yeah. How is that? Bochy: Simple guys. Really simple...... Surround yourself with idiots and you'll look like a genius. Dum Dum thinking: (how can I do that?)
I was in Mattingly's corner since he took over, confident he would become better as time went on. But with each passing day it seems that he's not only not getting better, he's actually regressing. The other night when he refused to bring in Howell and stayed with Johnson was the last straw for me. A "player's manager" is great if your winning. But it's pretty irrelevant when you're underachieving. I doubt he'll be fired at this point in the season, but if we were to continue losing and fell out of the NL West lead, then who knows?
I go back and forth on Mattingly, but it seems every one of his big "gut decisions" backfire in his face. He was never going to get fired as soon as the new FO came in. These guys immediately started wheeling and dealing, throwing in a new manager would have just been more fuel on the fire for what was apparently already a very unsteady clubhouse. Unless the team completely falls flat on their face, I could also see him around again next season as the FO continues to try to funnel in their guys and out with the ones that do not fit. I also do not see too many great options being out there (and don't say Mike Scioscia, he'll never coach with this FO) where they are gonna want to take a shot on guy without a great history.
I'm always writing at night - things I would change, things I would do differently. When I write a note, it sticks in my head differently. Don Mattingly
Honestly, at one time I though Babe Ruth was a cartoon character. I really did, I mean I wasn't born until 1961 and I grew up in Indiana. Don Mattingly
He's so bad that if we hold on to this divisional lead, we'll have won the division 3 times in a row for the first time in franchise history
how come when the team is struggling it's "the manager can't pitch or hit for them", but when the team succeeds he gets the credit? not directing this at you specifically chief just seems to be a double standard of the pro-mattingly clan
