Just finished it. One of the best baseball books I've read since 3 Nights in August.

    great post mousey
i think what hurts is when you feel betrayed by ownership
trading piazza was a knee jerk reaction by fox when he didn't jump at their first contract offer
corporate idiots (like chase carey) who knew nothing about baseball making roster decisions
the 90's were a dark time for me as a fan
i felt close to those teams (ie, players) in the 60's, 70's and 80's
always felt like the dodgers were part of your family, as most of the guys came up thru the dodger system
trading guys like pedro and konerko ended up being poor decisions [obviously] and hurt
but we still had the bulk of up guys coming up thru the system -- 4 consecutive roy's from '79-82, and 5 from '92-'96, with nomo being the only exception
    hated the piazza deal
never liked sheffield [although he was an amazing hitter], johnson was overrated, bonilla was over the hill and eisenreich meh [another fucken ex-phillie]
    i thank mccourt
yes he was obviously a douchebag piece of shit, but at least he got us back in the postseason
plus, if not for him, guggenheim may have never been afforded the opportunity to take over
times have changed and it's not always in the best interest to hold onto fan favorites who are no longer productive... business decisions
i have fond memories for guys like loney, martin, kemp, dee and others
but trading all of them [at least at the time] made sense
kemp was my favorite player so when the padre trade was first being discussed, i was pissed
then i heard what some [here and elsewhere] were saying
    and it all made sense
the way i look at is we paid san diego to take kemp, and in exchange we got an all star catcher and an opening for an all star center fielder
    and how's kemp doing? :tuborg:

    ^kinda rambling but whatev :irishnazi:

I haven't read the book, but I was able to find an excerpt of Greinke's speech. Here's the link for those interested. Only Greinke, man. Hilarious . I don't recall Greinke being part of the pool celebration... this might explain it.

It's been years since I've spent a lot of money on Molly, but that might have to change.

I'm sorry, but that's some funny fucking shiite right there.

The book hits home for me even more because my dad died on June 10th in 2013, which was about a week before we started winning every game. I never brought it up on here because I wasn't really ready to talk about it

And this shit is not funny at all. I feel your pain, my brother. My dad was not the reason I am a Dodgers fan, but in many, many ways, he is the reason I am a baseball fan. My dad passed in 2007 at the age of 83, and for quite a while after that my most frequent memories of him were when he took the time to play catch with me in the yard after he got home from working way too long, or when he NEVER missed a little league game for me or my two brothers, no matter what. Or even later in his last few years when he was declining, after mom passed, and I would go over after work and sit with him and watch a Braves game, and he would ask me if I knew about a new young player.

Y'all will have to excuse me for a while, I'm a bit verklempt.

Grandfather was from Brooklyn. Transplanted out here in Northern California but being Giant country didn't stop his love for the Dodgers. He passed it on to me and it was intensified when I moved down to SoCal in 1988 at the age of 8.

Wish I could of been in Ebbets and saw games like he did when he was a kid all the way up into his late teens.

Love for a team is almost always more passionate when it's passed down. Especially when you have memories of loved ones centered around those teams.

Yeah that was hard to read, did you completely skip it or did you get a chance to read about Hanley during it?

My quick thoughts are that the book has made me thing more negatively towards Ned, And Kemp, and more positively towards Don and Kasten

Some of the other more controversial pieces, like Hanley and Puig, gave me more info but really, you see a lot more context. Well, maybe not Hanley

    Really enjoyed it though

Ned deserved everything thrown at him and more. Glad Kemp is out of that fuckin locker room.

Couldn't help but notice that Molly Knight is pretty bangable while searching for the book online, but it could have just been 1 good photo. My head is always in the right place.

Just bought the book and reading through the first chapter has reminded me how much I hated Frank McCunt.
