Yeah, last year. And it really isn't. compared to McCarthy's 2 seasons with more than 140 innings out of 9, Haren has 10 with more than 165 innings in 12 years.

I don't think it's Hamels or bust to make this a good offseason. Do wonder who that next starter we get is though, but if whoever that is is better then Brandon McCarthy then my fucking goodness this rotation is lethal

2.46 ERA, good for 5th best in the NL, 3.07 FIP, 6.6 WAR, 1.148 WHIP, that isn't "meh" or bad by any means.

I'd be happy with someone like Kuroda or Peavy to round out the rotation, but I think Friedman has a hard on for Shields.

I just want back of the rotation starters and all starters in general to be and stay healthy, because what we will have behind it if one or two gets hurt will not be pretty.

Look ERA I already gave you...

WHIP I'll agree to as it can be measured.

The other two are only for discussion once moderate inebriation sets in.

Which, in your case, may have already happened. Hey it IS a Friday so nostrovia

Haren's 200+ inning workhorse days are in the past. Over the past 3 seasons Haren has had several trips to the DL for arm/shoulder injuries. McCarthy has had a few too. The major difference in innings pitched is because of this, which made McCarthy miss the end of 2012 and he missed part of 2013 because of it too:

What if he had been 14-9? Is that "lights out?"

He has? 30+ starts each of the last 3 years. (No wait, edit that, Each of the last 1o years.) That is good for a back end guy or any starter for that matter.

Yup, which is exactly why it was smart and important for the front office to also add SP depth at the margins with Bolsinger, Wieland. They aren't superstar names but you can't just buy 7 good starters and stash two in the minors, so they added in the way they could and let trades happen in a way to not deplete areas with thin depth. Now we have Wieland and Lee who aren't great but I mean it's a good base of a backup plan for first injury.

Would still like to add to that and I bet they will, cause it's likely we need 8-10 starters in a year or some shit

Felix Hernandez went 13-12 with a 2.27 ERA in 2010 and won Cy Young. Doug Fister was 3-12 with Seattle in 2011 then went 8-1 with Detroit after getting dealt to them that season....W-L means jack shit and I can't believe people even use it an argument nowadays.

I'm just asking to see where W-L becomes "lights out" in your universe.

And damn str8 it's after 5, it's damn near 8 and I'm about to finish my 3rd IPA.

Looks like you may be right. He did have short stints on the DL in 2012 and 2013, but nothing major.

Doubtful. He hates big money contracts. If anything, Kasten is telling him to ensure that they have plenty of pitching options in Spring.

    http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/12015896/mlb-winter-meetings-winners-losers

"Starting with the moment Jon Lester picked the Cubs late on a memorable Tuesday evening, it felt like an earthquake rippled through the Manchester Grand Hyatt. And the transactions started flying.

But not just the usual flurry of free-agent signings, large and small. We saw an incredible succession of trades (not all of them official yet), involving the likes of Matt Kemp, Dee Gordon, Jimmy Rollins, Yoenis Cespedes, Rick Porcello, Mat Latos, Wade Miley, Howie Kendrick and Dee Gordon."

(The writer was so excited, he mentioned Dee twice)

"The Dodgers won the fourth-most games in baseball this year (94). So it's hard to say they're better. But it's harder not to appreciate the creativity and vision of what they've done. As intriguing as their stealth pursuit of Lester was, it was even more intriguing to watch them strike on multiple fronts, within hours of knowing a Lester signing wasn't happening. Even by making trades with two teams (the Angels and Padres) they'd made a combined three deals with in the previous 38 years.

Love the new DP combination of Kendrick and Rollins. Love the upgraded up-the-middle defense of Kendrick, Rollins and Joc Pederson. Love how the ground-ball, funky-contact approach of Brandon McCarthy fits that defensive upgrade. Love how they cut payroll, added to their prospect depth and injected life and leadership into their clubhouse so decisively. Just don't love their lineup without Kemp and Hanley Ramirez. But there's more activity coming, in the probable addition of a free-agent starter (James Shields?). And maybe much more. So no one won the week like the Dodgers"

I think Kuroda would be the perfect guy to finish off the rotation

No. The point is that he would accept the QO cuz there's no way he gets that in the open market.

As for Kendrick, the QO value applies only to elite players, and he's not it. I highly doubt he can get 4/$60 in the open market. If he can, then we REALLY gave Kemp away!
