Mattingly makes some poor decisions, some questionable decisions, and some good decisions. he's inexperienced and learning. however, get the fuck off the skipper's back and support him like the players are. if you wanna talk about in-game management tonight, that's fair. but don't neglect to give Mattingly cred for knowing his team's offense was spotty and a Jekyl/Hyde offense from night to night...and getting Kersh out there tonight to keep the score low. and sure enough, we had 2 runs at the start of the 8th inning and needed every bit of Kersh's effort. ATL would've probaby hung 5 or 6 on Nolasco...they know him that well and Gonzalez had him Miami too
I respect Tim Hudson and felt bad for the guy when he injured his ankle late in the season.. but fuck that dude for mocking Agon's boom gesture only after they took the lead!! We got the last laugh bkitch!! :finger:
I mean i get what you're saying to an extent. Sometimes people are hypercritical about every single move he makes. First off, from all reports, starting Kershaw tonight was not just Donnie's decision. That being said, i was fine with it. However, i'm not gonna lick his nuts about starting Kershaw because he went against the very point of doing so. The reason you throw your ace out there is because you want to give your team the best chance to win a game. When the decision was made to start him, you are basically saying, this is a do or die game. You do not want to go back to Atl and play in a game 5 where anything can happen and you will not have the momentum, be on the road and have to deal with a crazy Braves crowd. So this games approach with Kershaw starting was do or die. What do you do in do in die situations? Well, you put your best players out there to win the game. What he did tonight was beyond dumb and it almost cost us. Kershaw was dealing and had only 91 pitches thrown. You negate the whole premise of starting him by throwing out Beli instead of him for the 7th inning. There was literally nothing to back up this move. It was stupid and made 0 sense. Everyone knew what was going to happen next. Hey, i understand it is baseball and shit happens, but considering Kershaw's pitch count and how he was pitching, it's a no brainer to throw him out there for the 7th and then get to the real strength of our pen in the 8th and 9th. You put out Kershaw in the 7th and have the pen on standby if anything happens. Im not one to call out Don all the time, but this was a horrible decision that almost cost us this game and possibly the series. Uribe gets a bunt down and we may be having an entirely different conversation right now. Uribe bailed out Mattingly and the baseball gods worked their magic a bit today. That however doesn't take away from the horrible decision he made tonight. Hopefully he learns from it because we are going to have to win some tight games to win this ring and the difference may come down to who manages the game better.
Gonna go through the entire game thread right now. Just got home from the game, made a last minute trip there and it was UNREAL. oh my god. Don't even know what to say.. i was in the pavilion and I thought it was going to fall down after Uribes home run I was soo fucking nervous and felt like it just wasn't our game. Props to Kershaw, Crawford, Puig Wilson, Jansen and mmmm I think I'm forgetting someone.... FUCK YEAH URIBE
however, Kersh didn't fight being pulled, he smiled and shook hands with everybody and he shut it down...because he was BEAT. enough people whined about Kershaw's pitch count in Game 1 to realize that if Kersh is OK with being pulled, he's probably gassed. Kersh fights the hook at every chance. not tonight. his effort was good enough...predictably we just didn't score much for him.
Fuckkkk, I'm so close to coming out in that video lol just like one section down if they kept moving right in the left field pavilion
So you really think Kershaw didn't want to go back out there? If don, said to him, we need you for the 7th and your done, he couldn't and wouldn't want to do that? See this is the very thing i am talking about. Managing. Maybe Kershaw was tired, but part of managing is motivating, and the fact is, you throw him out there and see in this type of game. That's just how it is. Im sure he wasn't feeling exactly the same on short rest either, but he went out there and did what he had to do. Tired Kershaw or Beli? I think i'll go with tired kershaw for one inning.
:fuckoff: :finger: I say that with all due respect.....He has been under Torre's wing through the Yankees and Dodgers and sent to Managers training in the minors in Dodgers system and given a shot to manage this all star line-up with $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and he still learning??????:loser:
Mattingly:crazy::doh::jointpass::lowscore::hanged: I really didn't think of him this way until yesterday..... When the team was struggling I was all for him letting him finish the season and let the chips fall were they may. But this team is winning on their own merits. Mattingly is a players manager who is like one of the guys but by far no a strategic guy to produce a win when they struggle.
Well from here on out I will pray to the baseball gods to keep the boys in Blue pitching hitting and fielding well through out this run and not give Mattingly a shot too
