not a fan of bud or -- for that matter -- any former owner running mlb but, credit where credit's due... if not for his divisional realignment/expansion in 1994 the race to/for the postseason would be nowhere near as interesting/compelling -- especially since we'd still/currently be out of the postseason picture, with no wild card(s) and two games behind the braves bravo bud
and fwiw, i was totally opposed to the expansion/re-alignment when it was first announced but i've (obviously) since changed my tune and not just because it gets us to the postseason just makes it more exciting and, tbh, a bit more fair for a 162 game season take 1993 for example... i loved that piazza knocked the giants out of the postseason on the final day but really... how fair was it that a team that won 103 games missed the playoffs... by one game... on the final day of the season... despite being six games better than the nl east champion phils??? again it was the giants so whatev, but had it been us -- i guarantee there would still be bitter fans whining and bitching about it (present company excluded, of course) so yeah, bravo bud not sure about the two wild cards, but i've been wrong before so l'm willing to wait and see as for other bud moves/decisions... i don't like the all star game -- an exhibition game -- determining home field advantage in the world series teams with the best record should always get the nod imo and i hate interleague play and the unbalanced schedule would be much better playing each nl opponent equally just ship milwaukee back to the al and we're good :soapbox:
I love the two wildcards because the previous wildcard had no disadvantage and obviously were successful more often than not. The new system will make it much harder to be successful in the post season, as it should be.
I like the one game playoff format and then I think it(Division series) should be 2 - 7 game series(no more 5 gamers). We can't have four teams waiting for the 2 wildcard teams to play a series IMO.
Worst case it's three days off, which is one more than they currently have. And 1 game is not fair to the teams involved, it doesn't determine anything. The Astros could beat us in a one game playoff.
I like that it isn't fair (yes, it'd suck if it was us) It may be gimmicky but it works. For me it's must watch TV.
I think it's better that it's not fair for the wild cards. If you don't win the division, you have to go through an extra step to advance. Mind you, this isn't to see we'll never see a wild card team in the World Series, but I like it. Plus, it's better to get the playoffs started already than for teams to have to wait three or four days to begin playing.
totally agree it should be totally disadvantageous hell, i'd be in favor of them not getting any home games... at least in the lds
One-Game playoff - AL/NL doubleheader at Wrigley Field. At least the Cub fans will get a playoff games...
The Wild Card was formed by Selig as a conspiracy to impeach tenured whistleblowers in the MLB Offices. Legend has it Bud canceled his flight on 9/11.
Get rid of divisions. Have NL standings and AL standings take the top 8 (are we up to 8 now) put them in the playoffs. What are the point of divisions anyway? Oh and get rid of the stupid inter league play already!
My favorite part was when he sold the Dodgers to a guy who didn't actually have the money, and was million of dollars in debt. Great, great decisions from a great, great man.
