Giants To Sign Jeff Francoeur By Tim Dierkes [July 9 at 12:24pm CST] 12:24pm: Francoeur agreed to a minor league deal with San Francisco, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com (on Twitter). 7:59am: The Giants have reached an agreement on a minor league deal with free agent outfielder Jeff Francoeur, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The Royals had released the 29-year-old earlier this month. Francoeur hit .208/.249/.322 in 193 plate appearances this month, following a down 2012 with an even worse campaign. Amid a resurgent 2011 season, the Royals signed Francoeur to a two-year, $13.5MM extension. They'll be on the hook for the $3.2MM or so remaining on his contract, less the pro-rated league minimum if Francoeur returns to the Majors. Francoeur is represented by CSE. A right-handed hitter, Francoeur hasn't done much damage against lefties since that 2011 season. The Giants still aren't risking much by giving him a shot to contribute in left field; Rosenthal says they figure to use him in a platoon with Andres Torres, with Gregor Blancomanning center field in the absence of the injured Angel Pagan. O/U 1.5 days before he's on the juice.
Can't wait to see how playing in that "hitters" park revitalizes Francoeur's career. I swear if this dude suddenly figures everything out, anyone else up for jumping the guy and getting a blood sample? Shits not right in the bay area.
Blue Jays Release Ramon Hernandez By Tim Dierkes [July 9 at 3:55pm CST] The Blue Jays released catcher Ramon Hernandez, according to a Buffalo Bisons press release. Hernandez was designated for assignment by the Rockies in March, then traded to the Dodgers, and then designated by the Dodgers and released in June. The Blue Jays inked him to a minor league deal, but he appeared in only five games for the Bisons. Hernandez, 37, was an All-Star with the Athletics in 2003. With 169 career home runs, he ranks eighth all-time among Venezuelans. Among those who have caught at least 1,000 games, Hernandez's home run total ranks 22nd all-time. What do you guys think about giving this guy a shot? lol
