I've never been to Marty's, but I can tell it's a quality place by the way it looks. Bad paint job, no place to sit, a fat guy loitering, junk piled up outside, gas station fumes in the air, a sign with a stupid generic tagline like "Home of the combo"... places like this don't stay in business without killer food.
Filling? PFFFFFFT!!! Chili cheese fries from anywhere other than The Hat are amateur at best!!! This is a normal order:
Although it seems like cheating to put pastrami on chili cheese fries without calling them pastrami fries, that looks delicious. It also looks like I would turn into your sig after one order.
Yup, been there many times. And, yup, the chili burgers are great - gooey with cheese the way chili burgers should be. I was also addicted to the chili dogs for awhile. (All of this was before I went on my health kick and stopped eating all that crap). They have a breakfast burrito that's pretty good, too - though the better place for breakfast is just east of there on Pico - John O'Groats. btw, my Dad grew up in Cheviot Hills and remembers Apple Pan and Marty's back in the '40's (wasn't Marty's then). So, these joints have been around a long time!
just went to their yelp site combo burger with 2 hot dogs, chili, cheese, bacon and grilled onions?!!! i feel like costner in bull durham. "is this heaven?..."
Ha! Great videos! Gosh! It's Huell Howser at the Apple Pan! Golly! Is that a Hickory Burger you're eating? Gee! Can I have a bite? Mmmm Mmmm! Well, there you have it, folks, a real burger at the Apple Pan!
I have no oven. hard to make fries. I don't like to eat processed frozen food. I have deep fryer but that's a lot of oil to waste for some fries. Hard to make fries. Sometimes I par baked them on bbq then sliced them thick and pan fried them on each side in olive oil and garlic. Sprinkled with chunky salt curry powder. I love ketchup therefore love fries.
Late to the party here. Was not impressed with five guys, overpriced and too many selections I know some people like to build their own burger though. In N Out is always good, and beloved by Asians throughout the south land. For me the best burger in LA is Tommy's, it's that burger thats a pain in the ass to eat, messy as hell , so good and guilty you can't stop eating it and you feel like crap afterwards. Ticks all my boxes.
