I still would be surprised to see Urias in 2015, but this certainly makes it more possible if he keeps doing well throughout the season.

(also he's scheduled to throw one more time in AA before he has the surgery)

What exactly is the story on Ryu...first, a DL stint with an ETA of May /June, then a 60 day DL, billed as "just a strategic roster move", now the surgery, "won't be getting him back at all" BS...who's looking at this guy's injury?
Did he graduate from a medical school?
    I don't get it.

Lol, those that thought the 60-day DL was strategic were the best, hahaha....

    James Shields is 5-0, with a 3.74 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, averaging over 6 IP/start with a 12.2 K/9 ratio.

Glad we didn't sign him in the off-season because McCarthy gives us more flexibility.

Cool story. Sounds like you have a lot of flexibility, much like us with McCarthy.

FIFY July's right around the corner and they'll start with possibly giving Yadier Alvarez close to what McCarthy got.

Somebody has a healthy or unhealthy depending on your perspective, obsession with James Shields but hell he is pitching well. VERY early in his Padre career to judge however. His FIP is 4.75 so you could argue he is getting lucky but he could be getting lucky with us I suppose. His contract though yikes, Anderson's FIP is 3.48. We'll see what happens.

Cool, so we can have $100M out to two pitchers so only one can pitch? That's your argument?

Look, Shields isn't the best thing ever, but I just think it was a mistake to sign McCarthy to that kind of a contract. Anderson alone I was always OK with because it was a 1-year deal.

Just seemed liked we stretched in terms of $ and years to Brandon.

What? Alvarez won't be pitching with the big club for at least a couple years.

When I said " Shields cost the pAAds a draft pick "..the point was that he's not worth a draft pick to the Dodgers. You know who else sports a 1.25 WHIP?..Frias. You know who's pitching to a 1.09 WHIP right now?..Bolsinger. Guess who's got a 1.23 WHIP and the world is ending?..Kershaw. I'm not overly impressed with Shields' performance thus far. There's the 4.75 FIP as well. He's not worth whining about every week. It's not like we just fired our manager and replaced him with our GM..we're OK.

" Shields isn't the best thing ever "..can I hold you to that?

The point in bringing up Yadier Alvarez's signing this July is this..where are we hurting because of McCarthy? His replacements are pitching well, the team is about to spend more money on pitching in early July, and they're still 10 games over .500 and in the driver's seat..so where are we hurting? July is around the corner and they'll be in the market for both young pitchers for the farm and established guys like Kazmir to replace Ryu. Again, McCarthy's not holding up anything and he didn't cost them draft assets. http://www.truebluela.com/2015/5/19/8628375/pablo-fernandez-dodgers-starting-pitcher <-- take a gander there.

Bottom line, it's " on to the next ". I don't know why you keep lookin over there to those sorry ass pAAdres.

Dodgers plan to stretch out Fernandez as a starting pitcher.

"He has a five-pitch mix. He has a really good feel for pitching, and has shown really good command throughout his career," said Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said on Tuesday. "He's got the 'El Duque' Orlando Hernandez delivery, which a lot of Cuban pitchers seem to have. He idolizes him and wants to pitch like him, which wouldn't be a bad outcome."

Fernandez, who reportedly agreed to a deal with the Dodgers two months ago, has been working out and pitching in a camp set up by his agent. Fernandez will report to Camelback Ranch to begin his professional career.

"We're going to get him to Arizona as well and start the process of stretching him out," Friedman said. "The upside scenario is that he's a starter for us at some point this year."

    guerrero on olivera...

Guerrero provides Scouting Report on Olivera
by Matthew Moreno | Dodgers Nation — 1 hour ago

The Los Angeles Dodgers officially signed Cuban defectors Hector Olivera and Pablo Milan Fernandez Tuesday, adding them to an organization that already has a number of Cuban natives. Olivera mentioned that as a factor in deciding which team to sign with as an international free agent.

While there was plenty of off-the-field news, the Dodgers traveled north and suffered another defeat at the hands of the San Francisco Giants. Alex Guerrero started at third base and went 2-for-4. Following the loss he provided a scouting report on Olivera, via ESPN’s Mark Saxon:

“Guerrero said he has known Olivera for years. They were two of the best second basemen in the Cuban league before they both left their country and signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. “He’s a good hitter, hits for average. I would say he should hit 12 to 18 home runs a year, in that range. He’s versatile. Fast,” Guerrero said in Spanish. Fast, like Yasiel Puig fast? “No,” Guerrero said. “Less so.”

For his part, Olivera also didn’t compare himself to Yasiel Puig during a conference call Tuesday night. “I play hard but relaxed,” he answered through a translator when asked if his style of play was along the lines of Guerrero’s or Puig’s.

When asked if Olivera is capable of playing third base, the position he’s been rumored and expected to play for the Dodgers, Guerrero didn’t offer a conclusive answer:

We’ll have to see,” Guerrero said. “I think he’s a very versatile ball player, but we’d have to see him here at the major league level. It’s different.”
Olivera has been sent to Camelback Ranch, where Dodgers of president baseball operations Andrew Friedman said he’s expected to remain for one week. After that, the 30-year-old infielder will be sent to High-A Rancho Cucamonga and eventually Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Friedman added he believes Olivera is capable of contributing in the Majors this season, which will certainly make for an interesting situation as the Dodgers would presumably have a surplus of infielders.

There’s a school of thought one of them eventually will be included as part of a trade to net a starting pitcher. Ironically, Guerrero’s name is reportedly one to have already garnered interest. He’s making $4 million this season and is owed $5 million in each of the next two years.

However, included in Guerrero’s contract is a clause which allows him to opt out of his deal at the end of the season in which he is traded. It’s unlikely Justin Turner would be moved as he’s been a key player for the Dodgers and is under team control. Juan Uribe, whose playing time has significantly decreased, is in the final year of his deal.

Got it. So just because Frias and Bolsinger are pitching out of their minds, the McCarthy deal works for you. Ohh, and we could've signed Alvarez regardless, so?

Yea, I'll wait for your next irrational, long response since you can never seem to get the point anyone is making, but rather just spew BS and tangent off.

i don't think you " got it ". my point is why keep bitching about McCarthy?..especially in regards to a Shields that hasn't been that damn impressive.

i fully expected you to get pissy.

guess what..James Shields wasn't ever gonna be a Dodger. get over it..we're almost in June.
