Hahahahaha...dick. ESPN statement: "Colin Cowherd's comments over the past two days do not reflect the values of ESPN or our employees. Colin will no longer appear on ESPN." Now, let me be the 1st to say that I found his show entertaining at times, but the same thing that made it entertaining is what ended up getting him in trouble. All he's ever done on his show is try to " school people " and make generalizing comments...without this approach he wouldn't be shit in the 1st place. So it doesn't shock me that 1) he finally hit on a topic that he should've left alone, and 2) that he refused to apologize. He's a true dick. He tried to style on Harbaugh after that shitty interview, but all in all, he and Harbaugh deserve one another.
I didn't think what he said was that bad or untrue. :wowracist: Maybe I need to actually listen to it?
his show used to be pretty good then his ego took control and he began thinking he was the reason people tuned in had he sucked it up and apologized, he'd still be employed but serves him right tbh now he can bombast to his kids
Seems you can't state facts without getting branded a racist. I doubt the Domican Republic is an academic hotbed too. So what? It fucking isn't.
Just heard his "rant" and it makes my dislike for espn/political correctness even stronger. The man did not say a single thing that was untrue or racist. Despicable that he was fired over that.
Never respected how he ran his show either, but it was entertaining at time nonetheless. People would call in and make really good arguments against his stances, he'd cut them off, hang up on them and then make fun of their stances and all that kinda juvenile shit. Both he and Bill Simmons can fuck off and ride off into the sunset together.
That was a pretty lame Twitter apology from Cowherd a little while ago as well. He had the chance to apologize before getting fired and didn't. If he didn't feel like an apology was needed at first, he shouldn't have apologized after getting popped on the hand and fired either. But he ended up doing so because he had to please his next/new employer.
The issue is mainly insensitivity. He unnecessarily aimed at a group of people and then didn't apologize for coming across as insensitive afterwards. He fucked up. I hope Stephen A. Smith is next. Haha
Nothing worse than someone being crucified for speaking the truth..... granted he could have said it with more tact but it still was the truth. He belongs on this forum. Someone should invite him. He should post here. Far far away from our annoying and overly sensitive PC world.
This political correctness era is PISSING me off. Hulk got canned too for saying the N word 8 years earlier!!!!! There are crimes with 8 year statute of limitations I believe aren't there? Colin is not my favorite but really? How many Dominicans are watching anyway it's a 3rd world country in many respects. Oh well.
What Colin said was actually extremely backwards and racist. I try to give radio hosts the benefit of the doubt, if your job is to talk for 3-4 hours straight on air, day after day, you are bound to say something stupid. But I think "Political Correctness" is a buzzword that is being overused to try to protect dumb, racist thoughts and opinions. ESPN gave Colin a forum to reach millions of people, and with that comes a major responsibility to be better and more professional than the average Joe. The problem with what Colin said is that he basically said "Baseball is so simple a Dominican can do it." That's horseshit. Yes, baseball is a simple sport. And yes, the Dominican Republic is a country with a less developed formal education system. But sorry, the two don't link. There are 100 third world countries and they aren't all flowing with Major League Baseball talent. The Dominican produces a ton of Major League talent not because the sport is "simple" but because the country values and loves playing the sport. Colin went on later to try to save himself by using the fact that very few baseball players have a college degree and that is possible because the sport is simple, again a retarded conclusion but at least not racist. What I want to know is, in what sport does a general formal education actually help? Is there any sport that I will actually be better at because I took European History last semester? The other thing to consider is that there are people who actually believe that certain races are inherently smarter than others. In fact, this used to be an actual idea in psychology believed at an academic level. It has been proven false. All races have the same capacity to learn. The idea that baseball can be played by Dominicans because it's "simple" is so off base, and is such a stupid concept. No matter how complex a sport, poor Dominican kids without a formal education will learn it just as fast and just as well as rich white kids in private school, given the same exposure and passion for the sport. All that said, Sports Nation with Colin and Beadle was probably the best show ever on ESPN. Beadle carried the show, but Colin didn't suck.
