YG's caught Anderson 6 more games than Ellis has this year, but Ellis has the big advantage ERA wise 3.31 to 3.97 That being said, I'd prefer YG catch every game from here on out because of his framing...ESPECIALLY Kershaw's next start. I have a feeling YG can get CK out of that damned 7th inning.
Everybody using that play last night as the sole reason the Mets lost is fucking frustrating. No respect given at all. Oh well fuck it we need to win this series.
And no fucks given on our part. We got the win and that's all that matters. Let's steam roll these fucks the rest of the series.
Been out of town but saw the play. I'm older too, and I like it old school (fuck Buster Pussy.) However, that was not "dirty", it was late and it was his intent to break up the play. All perfectly legal, and hard-nosed baseball. But if you look at the play you see Tejada looking over his shoulder as he receives the ball so he is aware of Utley and his position. Tejada then turns into Utley in an attempt to make the play, where as if he had stayed over the bag Utley would have at most been able to hit him with an outstretched arm, and no injury would have occurred. In the end, Tejada made the decision to risk injury by putting himself in the path of Utley, where as he could have avoided it by terminating the play. Bottom line, the defensive player made a judgement mistake and paid the price. No sympathy for him. Sorry.
Yeah, everyone feels sorry for the Mets and are backing them...except for Phillies fans haha I've seen some Phillies fans fire back at Mets fans. Everyone that is demonizing Utley would have been defending their player if he broke up a DP to tie a must win playoff game. That's all Utley was trying to do, but god forbid people look at things reasonably.
I pretty much agree with you for sure, except to me it was late and late means it was dirty. If someone slide that late on my SS, I'd be mad too and say it was dirty. Goldshmidt did it to Hairston a few years back and I know I as well as all the forum Dodger fans were pissed off. However poorly and stupid that Tejada handled that play doesn't change the fact That that slide is late. Late IS dirty. Sliding that late is certainly not clean is it? It is however a very common way to break up a DP. But overall...I'm convinced that the SS Tejada IS at fault for the injury as much if not more than Utley. If he simply faces Utley and jumps over him, it is easily a routine DP breakup play we see all the time. I am glad Utley did it. It wasthe right thing and expected thing to do. That SS was a moronic fuck to think he was safe to spin around with Utley coming in. What an idiot.
Tejada couldn't jump easily. Ball was thrown behind him and he had to spin to try and make the throw.
is thsi the rule he broke but is never ever enforced in this situation? Rule 6.05 reads: A batter is out when -- (m) A preceding runner shall, in the umpire's judgment, intentionally interfere with a fielder who is attempting to catch a thrown ball or to throw a ball in an attempt to complete any play: Rule 6.05(m) Comment: The objective of this rule is to penalize the offensive team for deliberate, unwarranted, unsportsmanlike action by the runner in leaving the baseline for the obvious purpose of crashing the pivot man on a double play, rather than trying to reach the base. Obviously this is an umpire's judgment play. Is Utley's loophole that he didn't leave the baseline? He also did put his hand down to reach the bag, he just missed it when the impact spun him around.
If you can spin, you can jump. He made a bad choice. All he had to do is "unplant" his feet and his leg would not be broken. I mean this all happened really fast, those guys didn't have a chance to see slow motion replays and plan their moves. I don't know how the SS instinct didn't take him into self preservation mode when a player is coming in to break up a DP. He made the odd split second decision, Utley made the absolute normal one. A little late but still the normal play.
From what I've read online, I think that's right. And, I mean, we often see runners leaving the baseline to break up DPs and they aren't penalized either.
Bottom line is every team would want their guy to do EVERYTHING possible to break up that dp in a big game And every team on the other side of the play would be pissed it happened to their guy regardless of the injury Its how ballplayers are taught to play from jump and everyone needs to chill the fuck out
Needs to be an "all hands on deck" game tomorrow night, knowing that Kershaw will likely make the game 4 start on 3 days if they lose. Don't care if it means we see the first reliever in the 2nd inning.
OR he could have chosen to stick it in his pocket and avoid possible injury. Which is my point, Tejada could have aborted the play and saved himself.
I agree with you too, but saying a late slide is a dirty slide is not necessarily true. As Utley said, coming in with cleats up is dirty. IMO a take out slide by definition has to be a little late.
I think where this breaks down is if the umpire judges that the runner could have tagged the base, not whether he tries to.
if it's within the rules, you do it you have to; it's an obligation to your team late slide, yes hard slide, yes take out slide, yes dirty slide, no so when is it crossing the line?...
