3 winning tickets: SoCal, Tennessee, and Florida... so our SoCal winner has to unfortunately share the jackpot. According to my math, still enough to hook us all up with decent cribs.

CA doesn't impose a state income tax on lottery winnings too, so I think that's definitely possible.

It's not Fordie. The son of a Saudi prince won it.
    Probably...

I heard some hedge fund manager won one of the tickets. If that's true, there really is no justice in this world.

    BASTARD!

It's yo nigga based with yet another run in with the cops and I need your advice.. Again

So I just got a ticket for several things and need to know how I can beat the case or get out with minimum damage

    1) misdemeanor for driving with an expired license.. My license expired last week and I had no idea.. I think I renewed it but i don't have it in my possession since I'm away from home rn for school.. But if I didn't let me know what to do as well

    2) driving with my headlights off.. So bogus but whatever

    3) driving while using my phone... This is what started this whole fuxking ordeal.. My ex gf (yall the niggas for the goat advice.. I broke up with my chick and am low key with the side chick now.. Update tbc) called me saying she and her friends are drunk and 30 miles away (expensive uber) and need a ride.. I'm a nice dude so I say sure.. They call me a billion times and the time I answer the cop sees and pulls me over.. My call was 41 seconds and I wasn't technically operating my phone I was just on the phone.. Isn't this no different from Bluetooth calling???

What's a nigga to do?? I can't afford the ticket and my parents sure as hell aren't gonna take it nicely either

    Fuck Irvine pd

    Lawyer up.

If your license is valid, just not in your possesion you'll very likely get this one thrown out. If it's out of date, you might be screwed. The headlight thing was a thrown in, you didn't give the cop a hard time did you? NEVER give a cop a hard time...be nice, courteous, and cooperative-it pays dividends in the long run. As I understand the California rules for phone use (not illegal in NC) simply holding your phone is a violation...seek professional help.

I watched the complete series. It's riveting, that's for sure.

I had a pretty low opinion of some police and DA practices going into it, so not completely shocked by the documentary but still found things disturbing.

Since watching it, I've read up on the incident and it's suggested that a lot was left out of the documentary - important things as far as the case goes. Ugh, such a fucked up situation all around - why can't people be normal?

I don't have much experience with this type of thing. First I would write a traffic lawyer just to see what they say. Ultimately they will cost $200 + and can't guarantee anything, so you may not want to hire them but you can still see what they say. Saving money is important, but not having your license suspended and keeping insurance costs down are just as important.

If you do decide to just take it on the chin, you can go to court and at least present your side of the case. Be courteous and concise. Don't deny what you were written up for, but courteously say things you said here.

Check with the DMV about your license, they should have a record if it's been renewed already. If it was renewed and you just didn't have it in possession there's a great chance that fine gets reduced.

As far as the phone goes you can say you didn't realize what you did was illegal. I talk on my phone now and then with speaker phone and the phone in my lap - I'm not really sure if it's illegal, but you can say you thought that was the same as using Bluetooth. You would be at the mercy of the judge in this case, but who knows.

I've only had a handful of tickets in my life and never actually contested them. One speeding ticket I sent a letter with the payment apologizing and they refunded me half the fine. I've also done traffic school afterwards to reduce points on my DMV record, which you should do if it will reduce any of these points.

Good luck. And stop being a menace in my hood.

no real recourse for you bg
driving with an expired license is against the law, as is no headlights and using your phone
if it's he said/he said against the cop, you will lose every time
pay your ticket and buy a bluetooth headset/earpiece
oh and stop being the nice guy
nice guys finish last and you'll end up being their doormat
    speaking of dem bkitches...
how about getting them to kick in on your ticket?
tbh they should have offered since you went out of your way to help them
see, they're already taking advantage of you being the nice guy
women [esp younger ones] often view niceness as a sign of weakness

Don't like to see/hear about any bad shit happening to a brother DSP poster, but that account reads like it was bound to happen, and that BG was asking for it, big time.
Tempt fate like that, and it will almost always jump up and bite you on the ass. Sooner rather than later.
You gotta know early on if you are the kind of person that can get away with shit...and do what you have to if you're not.

    Here are the relevant statutes

CA Vehicle Code 12500(a): A person may not drive a motor vehicle upon a highway, unless the person then holds a valid driver's license issued under this code, except those persons who are expressly exempted under this code.

    Vehicle Code 24400:
    (b) A motor vehicle, other than a motorcycle, shall be operated during darkness, or inclement weather, or both, with at least two lighted headlamps that comply with subdivision (a).
    (c) As used in subdivision (b), "inclement weather" is a weather condition that is either of the following: (1) A condition that prevents a driver of a motor vehicle from clearly discerning a person or another motor vehicle on the highway from a distance of 1,000 feet. (2) A condition requiring the windshield wipers to be in continuous use due to rain, mist, snow, fog, or other precipitation or atmospheric moisture.

Vehicle Code 23123: (a) A person shall not drive a motor vehicle while using a wireless telephone unless that telephone is specifically designed and configured to allow hands-free listening and talking, and is used in that manner while driving.

I know almost nothing about this area of law so I'm not offering any legal advice. But, I'll offer some observations:
    • If you did renew your license (you should definitely confirm this), then you may have a defense. This firm says the following: "If you do have a valid drivers license but simply didn't have it in your possession when you got stopped, this constitutes an infraction under California Vehicle Code 12951, California's law against failing to display a driver's license. The infraction will be dismissed if and when you provide proof that you were validly licensed at the time of your offense." My impression is that knowledge that your license wasn't expire isn't a defense either, but I could be wrong. You'd want to ask a lawyer about that. Given that it's a misdemeanor and can carry some relatively large penalties, it may be worth it to seek out, at the very least, a free consultation with a lawyer.
    • Someone mentioned ignorance of the law as an excuse. Unfortunately that will almost never hold in court. There are only a few instances in which it will (e.g., where you get an interpretation of the law from an official source and rely on it).
You're probably going to have to pay some fines, but hopefully it's a lesson to be safer on the road.

Buy a new wireless phone headset. Take it to court, claim you never use the phone and drive but it was an urgent matter. And that is why you know have the headset in order to be prepared next time you get an urgent call while driving.
They will remove the ticket if you do a good job in court.

The no license one seems like its also an easy fix it ticket. Show your license to the judge and have the case thrown out.

No lights on the other hand might be what they get you on. Why were they off?

Nah I was super respectful to the cop. I figure he first stopped me because he was on the opposite side of the road noticed my headlights and turned around with the quickness to stop me. Legit 1 minute from my apartment/university. And i wasnt really using my phone. I only had it in my hand to answer and then it was on speakerphone in my lap..In fact i cant talk on my phone without speaker because i wouldnt be able to hear shit so if he claims i was holding it then thats bs. Thanks for the reply though
True. rugged individualism. I feel it
Yeah Im hoping the judge agrees with that. All i did (at a stoplight) was slide to answer and hit speaker and it was never in my hand after.
Ill look into the traffic lawyer thing but with minimal funds atm im probably just gonna have to do extensive research online
Lol i treat irvine nicely for the most part, appreciate the advice mouse
    Lol real talk
They offered immediately to pay for it. But 2/3 of the girls im pretty sure its just like empty promises until i really need to pay
my ex gf said shed pay though so hopefully she comes through. She typically would, she just has to ask her parents for money and asking for $500 may not be realistic. Well see
But the take away, youre right. Fuck being nice, fuck these hoes and fuck the police
As with the rest thanks for takin the time to reply yet again
True words. Im trying to be that guy. Well see though.
Only slight difference on #2, its 24250 for me. Its probably the same thing though
"specifically designed and configured to allow hands-free listening and talking, and is used in that manner while driving."
Im gonna argue this exactly. Gonna say that verbatim actually
I guess a consultation is def necessary then to minimize the damage. Hoping I renewed the thing though :/

Thanks for the expert advice though and thank you for replying.
Lol ill buy one and have that story ready to go just in case. Sounds like it could work tbh

I thought my lights were on. I didnt roll the knob all the way. Officer said "you just missed the last click"..I proceed to roll it once to the last click and theyre on after. Dude really fucked me for that? I was on the road no more than 2 minutes too. unbelievable if thats what fucks me even though its everything lol
    thanks for replyin fam
lol low key also feeling a burning sensation when peeing....( i kid)
:notsureif: i should agree or you think im asian

couldnt agree more about that. middle finger and fist emoji

    *****

If I beat the case ill seriously venmo all yall some monies for my appreciation of your replies
it prob wont be much because im an unemployed college student but if i save money cause of u guys i owe u and its the least i can do
