Magic Johnson proposes Dodger Stadium for Alvarez/Golovkin fight by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 17 minutes ago In addition to serving as the iconic home of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Dodger Stadium has also played host to other sporting events and concerts. The frequency with which Dodger Stadium is used for events other than a Major League Baseball game has increased in recent years. Last February, the Dodgers announced a multiyear exclusive booking agreement with the Oak View Group (OVG) to bring more concerts to Dodger Stadium. It housed Beyoncé’s “Formation World Tour” on Sept. 14, 2016, during the second United States leg of her tour. Billy Joel’s lone appearance in Southern California this year was held at Chavez Ravine on Saturday night. The Kings and Anaheim Ducks played at Dodger Stadium in January 2014 as part of the NHL’s Stadium Series. If Dodgers part owner Magic Johnson has his way, the next non-traditional event Dodger Stadium will lend itself to is the Sept. 16, 2017 middleweight fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, per Lance Pugmire of the L.A. Times: Magic Johnson has presented an offer for Dodger Stadium to host the Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin middleweight title fight Sept. 16, and promoter Oscar De La Hoya describes the bid as the early “front-runner.” “I can’t reveal details, but Magic Johnson made a very nice offer. It’s a nice package I have to consider,” De La Hoya told the Los Angeles Times. Oscar De La Hoya, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, announced the Alvarez-Golovkin bout immediately after Alvarez soundly defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. by unanimous decision at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. While De La Hoya currently considers Dodger Stadium a frontrunner for the highly-anticipated bout, history is not in the Dodgers’ and Johnson’s favor. De La Hoya is expected to meet with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to discuss holding the fight at AT&T Stadium. During his press conference announcing the fight had been set, De Lo Hoya mentioned Wembley Stadium in London as a possible site. De La Hoya will also receive a pitch from MGM representatives for T-Mobile Arena to welcome Alvarez back for a third consecutive fight.
not very realistic i can't see two other teams agreeing to play their world series games there then again, the world baseball classic fell for it... and that is the real championship of baseball Adrian Gonzalez and Kiké Hernandez like this.
Err. This event isn't bullshit. Scott Kazmir will probably pitch a game at Dodger Stadium in 2017 sometime. Who is fucking up the field with bullshit events?
