This guy is shit. Incredible 2017 and was highly regarded by coaches in the lower levels as a guy who could hit. So I figured he may bounce back. But it doesn't look like that that will ever happen. Dude gets plenty of rest but just looks weak. Always. Will Smith? More Martin? Just write it off as "most catchers suck anyways"?
When are you doing Corey's though? I'm sure there's a buffer period of at least 5 games or so, but we need one soon. Thanks.
Didn't Barnes hit a HR last night? And a double to start the ninth and score the winning run? Odd time for a crucifixion... We could have kept the top offensive catcher in Ya$, right? But the FO chose not to...so who can qusxtion what they do ? It's like the theory of relativity...only a few could understand it when first it arrived. Always we want a new savior to come up and save us...there was Joc and Seagar and Cody and Buehler and on and on...and yet still,.no championship salvation. Unless the manager goes out from among us. Then maybe, just maybe, we'll know what it is like again. Y'know...addition by subtraction. Like Puig was rumoured to be.
I posted it before those events occurred. It's a pattern. But I cannot take requests because I have to be sincere for the reverse jinx to work.
I can. BUT I have to make the thread solely to bitch and complain about him. I can't go into it with an anti jinx motive.
Realistically he’s been fine. 102 wRC+ with good defense for a catcher is pretty good. But it doesn’t seem like he’s been that good from the naked eye. I think Barnes/Martin is a decent enough catcher combination but I have higher hopes for Barnes definitely. d’Arnaud was a random signing. He used to be pretty highly regarded but he’s been pretty bad for like 3 years now. I don’t know seems like taking a prayer on a player.
Another weak hitting catcher. I don't get this one, despite this FO's success with dumpster dives. Then there his injury history....... From today's Times. "He started the season on the injured list after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year. ...injuries have marred D’Arnaud’s career. He’s appeared in 100 games in a season twice. He’s spent time on the injured list with a concussion, a fractured finger, a hyperextended elbow, a strained rotator cuff, a bone bruise in his right wrist and, last season, a torn ulnar collateral ligament."
We do know that catcher is not traditionally a hitting position right? IMO you take what you can get offensively. NOT saying I'm completely happy with Austin the last 1 1/2 years but I've always viewed the position as just that a defensive one.
Except you know I was talking about sucking specifically in regard to offense. So when I say, "most catchers suck anyways" that is already taking into consideration that it's a defensive minded position with sucky offense. 5-10 years ago, that wasn't necessarily the case. There was a period when we were spoiled with good hitting catchers in MLB. Granted, roids may have played a role in that.
