It's nice that some of you are fine with mediocrity. But I fully expect a lot of turnover in the next 2 off-seasons, perhaps to the point that Kemp, Ethier, Kershaw, Ramirez and Jansen are the only ones from the present roster left. The org. just has too much money to sit back and watch this team hang around .500.
You don't think they have and will? All i'm saying is they're gonna pursue most and land some top FAs, the days of dumpster diving and not pursuing players based on cost alone (CC, Halladay etc.) are over.
More importantly, I think we will get the guys in between All Star status and dumpster guys. Guys like Swisher, Anibal Sanchez, etc. Those guys win you seasons, lengthen your lineup. THAT is really realistic and can make this team great. You get Kemp-Hanley-Ethier and add two good players, not great, but good and thats 5 capable hitters.
99 you're inferring that we should just sign guys because they are big names and at least that is what I got from your frustrated tone. If I am wrong I apologize.
I agree. Though Sanchez may not be a great example, too erratic for my taste. Marcum would be my choice among SPs not named Greinke. Swisher is a guy I absolutely agree on, maybe even as a full-time 1B.
Not at all, but you don't avoid them solely because they're expensive. If they don't fit (and Hamilton or others may not), thats fine. I'm sure that will be the case with some.
Injuries, platoon players, and AJ Ellis (who walks 3 times a game)... no one else has the 3.1 AB's / game.
Still don't think one of Loney's infamous popfly's to left would make it out of some of those backyards.
Juan Uribe's time with the Dodgers could be nearing an end, writes Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, as the team will need to open a roster spot with Adam Kennedy due back from the DL this week. Uribe has just a .553 OPS in 459 plate appearances since signing a three-year, $21MM free agent contract before the 2011 season. The Dodgers would have to eat the approximately $10.3MM left on Uribe's deal but Hernandez notes this would hardly be a burden to the club's free-spending new owners. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/08/nl-west-links-uribe-melky-fowler-padres.html
Kennedy coming up, sands going down. Aweesome that Gwynn accepts his assignment, fucking weird what we did it for. Brought up Sands to play in one game? And then we keep Uribe, Rivera, and Loney. Well, at least Gwynn is stashed in the minors... I bet if we make the playoffs he's on the roster and says fuck you to Rivera or Loney.
