This is not the same thing as winning a battle title though at all

It's just gut feeling from here. I saw how useless he was against the Cards last year and it scared me of him against elite pitching. Didn't watch him enough this year to know if that changed.

Well you're entitled to your opinion, like I am mine. But the guy has turned himself into a fine hitter, easily as good as anyone you mentioned in your original post, IMO. This is what he gave us last year, in spite of all the criticism he got, on a "worse" team that won more games..
Not only that, the "spark" that has been missing, and oft referred to in many posts, although somewhat restored by Corey for a month, is something that Dee gave all the time. Not to mention the pressure on pitchers, and 58 times when singles turned into doubles, and the hurry-up throws that a ss or 3b has to come up with when he shoots one deep in the hole. Invaluable.
    IMO, there's no contest.

We won 92 games and were in first place since May. All this "spark" and "lead off need" stuff is so subjective.

He had a great year, but I'm not mad about the return we got for him at all.

I respect that as gut feelings are important, I just can't see how you can say Utley specifically. I understand Kendrik and Kike, but Utley has been garbage this year and there are no signs of life.

Big time Dee fan, but I'm also capable of being objective and he was not giving them a spark all the time. His OBP in the 2nd half of last season was an even .300 (poor) and he walked like 3 or 4 times over that span...you can have all the base stealing ability in the world and it won't mean anything if you don't get dat ass on base. And as mentioned before when the chips were down against great post season pitching he didn't show up. Here's hoping he keeps progressing and has more success in the future.

Since both @VRP and @Fall Winslow have stated that they wouldn't want Dee because he sucks in the post-season, then are you telling me you wouldn't want Kershaw or will you be a hypocrite and find a loophole in your argument and logic; i.e. but you can't compare the two?

What I basically got from it was a Dee year seems like an amazing first 2 months and then 4 months of meh.

Did Kershaw get overmatched to you? I think it's completely different in regards to their individual struggles. Dee looked like he would swing at every breaking ball in the dirt, Kershaw looked as he always does, with maybe 4 bad pitches when he was over his normal workload in 3 starts

    dee's gone
might as well get over it
i too was a big fan of his -- still am
    but what's done is done
i think the trade worked out favorably for both teams, especially us...
we essentially got kendrick/kike/hatcher/barnes for haren/dee
so they got a batting champion, and we have to settle for another division title

Sorry kids, it was a bad trade and even worse if Howie walks. Grandal's injury justified the Kemp deal but that's all.

Kike was a nice acquisition but clearly it was a George Takei approved hire.

......not that there's anything wrong with that... ;)

Well, I sure hope we don't have to settle for the division title...I hope there's more than that coming. But it was never an either/or situation, was it? I mean, it's the Marlins...it's not like they were in it, really. And we certainly didn't win another NLW because Dee got traded...when we did it last season with him when he "sucked" (or whatever he was or wasn't last season), and with 2 auto outs catching. How TF did we win more games I wonder?
It is over, however, and it's as dead an issue as Ryu's arm is in the 2015 post season.
Oh, and as far as spark, which for me was excitement, is there one position player during this season that equaled Dee overall?

dee was exciting, that's for sure
But continuing to lose to the cards (like the phils before them) grew old
clearly the front office wanted a certain type of team with certain types of players
kemp was not that type, which is why he was banished
dee was relatively close with kemp, maybe they felt that might be a problem
regardless, hard to be disappointed with howie

Nah, not disappointed with HK at all. But I just think I'd rather have Dee and he what he brings.
I don't know if Dee's closeness to Kemp would actually initiate a trade, though. Maybe you're right...IDK.
Wonder why they just didn't keep Uribe then...y'know, for Puig's sake ?

Yeah, you can't remove your right handed #4 and #5 hitters and not add a right handed bat that consistently drives in runs from the middle of the order. It's pure lineup construction at that point and Howie fits anywhere from 4-6, where Kemp and Hanley resided.

They weren't gonna rely on Seager's or Joc's presence way back then nor an Ethier comeback year...nor another wild year from Turner. Howie has been a rock throughout his career and they wanted that stability from the middle.

When is James Loney-Goodson going to start winning all those batting titles people said he would win?
