Isaac Chotiner of The New Yorker: “Player empowerment is a catchall for the fact that the league has done a terrible job of empowering teams,” a current N.B.A. general manager told me. “The players have all of the leverage in every situation. I think it’s the worst thing that ever happened to professional sports on all levels.” The dynamic has shifted. That’s reality, and teams must work within it. Even if the general manager was talking only about the roster issues of player empowerment (not political activism), he will still have a rough time with this attitude. Essentially the players are destroying their own lively hoods At the very least they are alienating huge parts of the fanbase hindering future players ability to earn
Genuinely curious why you don't feel this way about the Dodgers? The players, manager, organization, and league have all caved to/endorsed the woke mob. Black Lives Matter on the pitchers mound and jersey sleeves... Kershaw, Joc, Turner, Muncy, Betts, and more appeared in a video endorsing BLM and calling out examples of "systemic racism"... Dave Roberts said he would boycott the White House when Trump was in office, saying "It's sad that he is the leader of this country" (but says nothing about the fraudulently installed senile pedophile currently there..not to mention they let degenerate murderers like Snoop Dog throw out first pitches)... Rich Hill and his wife ripped Trump for commenting on a controversial managerial decision during the 2018 WS... LGBT night and paraphernalia around the stadium...same sex make out sessions on the jumbotron... Mark Walter using his platform after winning the WS to call out racial inequity or some bullshit... Roberts popping off about Asian hate... ... Roberts and other Dodgers commented on "voter suppression" David Price called his former Red Sox teammates "white Sox" for visiting the WH in 2018. (imagine if a white player called his black teammates "black Sox" for visiting Barry).... The league itself moved to the all-star game over fake voter suppression... Virtually every beat writer and journalist who covers the team could double as MSNBC contributors... I've pretty much tried to cancel everything out of my head, so I could be off a degree or two on some of the specifics. But generally speaking, the Dodgers are no better than the Lakers when it comes to social commentary. My only guess as to why you haven't given up the Dodgers like you have the Lakers is because baseball is far more entertaining and ingrained in the culture. And I get it. It breaks my heart when my dad asks me if I saw a certain play from a Dodger game and I have to pretend like I did.
Yep, feel that way about them too. Edit: Plus I find baseball largely unwatchable due to all the strikeouts.
i did see the blm stuff in the beginning but haven't seen it continue and tbh i don't watch any pregame stuff either biggest thing for me is my mom will be 99 in Sept and it gives us something to enjoy if i could post pictures here of how happy that woman was last year...there just isn't many places you can look anymore and find something to enjoy together not watching the all star game and i think my loathing of davey here is fairly well documented if say Mookie was opining on every social event and calling it racist i'm sure it would wear us down as well we discussed it and are choosing to remain willfully ignorant of the madness that surrounds us everywhere right now if you boycotted every corporation and vendor w their pandering to progressives what would you buy? i doubt i'll ever step foot in DS again and don't buy nike or any of the egregious brands out there so i vote w my wallet but we still love watching the games and mom knows every player and situation think it really helps keep her lucid but you're right they aren't that much different from the Lakers in their pov and yet they don't have lightning rods like mebron ruining it for us playing for them these are really strange fucking times and the backlash is coming believe it i can ignore and forgive players to a degree because this narrative is relentless and not bowing your head could cost you your life's work doesn't make what they're doing right but think of what you lose if you can't talk to your dad about something that makes him happy and i respect any decision you make because its your life but that's my reasoning
That's what I suspected. The shared joy the game has brought to us all, especially with our families, is difficult to just let go of out of principle. That's why I have to emphasize that I'm not boycotting. Or, if I am, that's just one small component. I think the fake covid season just broke the habit. During which time the stakes were raised so high for our country, that tribalism, camaraderie, and focus was redirected from the Dodgers to other things. When I tried to watch opening day last season, I was just bored. Just a few months earlier, I was pacing back and forth in the reserve level during game 5 of the nlds. And suddenly, I couldn't care less on OD. Seeing all the woke stuff broke the camel's back. I really do miss what baseball used to mean to me. I can listen to Nancy b on YouTube and actually smell dodger stadium. I miss that but when I tried to turn on the game last season I didn't feel that anymore. Obviously the Dodgers existed before me, and they'll exist after me. I'm completely irrelevant. But for about 20 years I felt like I was part of the team. I don't feel part of the team anymore.
again i respect your conviction i hate this woke shit w a passion but its the flavor of the month atm i'll defy it and rail against it as long as i live i mean, look at this site and how a difference of opinion made regular posters leave they left because they know they can't defend their chosen or indoctrinated positions the voting rights argument holds no water just like crt and systemic racism those of us that think differently aren't going away and we won't be told to conform so this leaves us w Dodger baseball still get to share guys pitching and hitting balls w the fam don't let them steal that joy away from you cause that's exactly what they want if you consider 100% of what the Dodgers are what percentage are you angry with? 10%? 25% idk but if i can stand talking to a person 75% of the time that's a valued friend and that doesn't even count the losers at DSP that enjoy your frenzied game thread posts lol did you see CT's 14 pitch ab? epic
This is how I felt a few years ago. Now I realize that it's not the players that mean so much, it's the game and my love of it from my childhood. As I got older I pushed baseball to the back, fell for the excitement of football and basketball. Felt baseball was way too slow. Now I can't stand basketball (way before all the woke BS) and I "tolerate" football, but I spend my time glued to the Dodger games. I don't watch pre-games for any sport or ESPN, can't stand talk radio, and I'll change the channel if during the broadcast if there's any political talk. They say that sports is a byproduct of a functional society and if things keep going the way they are going, we'll lose all of them soon enough.
not watching the game but looks like the fake show is down 22 already what a surprise a mebron lead team would go belly up lol
Surprised LeBron didn’t leave the game in a stretcher and tell the media afterwards that he has secretly been playing with 3 different serious injuries.
It led to a championship last year. This year was going to be rough with an older team and the shortest off season in NBA history. AD does need to change something up though. He’s not doing something right in terms of being strong enough for his body to handle a long season. And some load management maybe necessary in any case. All things considered, I’m glad we have him than relying on a team solely with Lebron.
anyone watching the euro championship Denmark v Belgium is great soccer between CR and the local deli i'm in fuck this match is from 20 lol
