I don't agree that we "definitely" need a bat but one more would be nicer. My vote is for Soriano sorry if that's not a popular idea.

If Donnie is over his "speed at the top" thing, then there is no reason to bat AJ 8th and Rivera 2nd

    Ellis/Rivera as a 1-2 punch
A [good] utility guy batting behind HanRam

I'm down with it right now. That's the best lineup we can put out right now.

But another bat is necessary for me. Can't stay like this.

I believe Donnies thought process is probably that Rivera hardly Ks and AJ does a lot. I'd be shocked if we didn't have a new hitter by wednesday so he's probably just seeing what works

AJ's highest average and on base is hitting 8th so statistics back his play. .314 and .434 although batting 7th he isn't to far off in RBI.

The thing about Soriono, he's owed 18+ M annually through 2014, with a FULL No Trade Clause. He's bounced back a bit this year but he's a COMPLETE liability in LF and we'll all be in tears when he keeps striking out. This guy has been declining and declining, and is making big money for 2 more seasons after this one.

When I saw the graphic with his picture and terms of his contract, I felt something in the pit of my stomach like, "Wow, he's like the definition of someone an organization must hate. Hostage status"

The Cubs are willing to pick up the salary so why not?

"The Cubs are offering to absorb all but $2MM of Alfonso Soriano’s contract, Stark writes. The left fielder earns $18MM per season through 2014 and the Cubs might take it all on for the right prospect."

In addition he has a fellow Domincan in HanRam and a possible mentor in Manny Mota so to me small gamble. Also, you have to consider what the asking price would be on a Pence which is reportedly prohibative.

If that's the case, yeah, maybe. If we really cannot get anyone else, it's worthy of thought no doubt.

What prospect do the Cubs think is worth eating so much money though? That's another thing.

There's a reason no one wants a guy with 20+ HR power for nothing. Maybe the Dodgers get him in a low risk type of effort, but I'm not gonna get all excited and I'd get mad if it's something significant for him.

If we literally have to pay $5M or less for 2 years it's a no brainer! Fucking cut his ass if he sucks, who cares?

As I wrote earlier, Webster, Lee and Reed are already considered off-limits so who knows what else is on the table. I just thought it interesting the possibility of getting Soriano on the cheap.

Seems like nothing happened. Drew's carrying a bat and headed toward indoor cage.
