this is fucken awesome... Jay-Z, attempting to establish some measure of credibility for representing Robinson Cano:"I know about budgets. I was a drug dealer," he tells Robinson. "To be in a drug deal, you need to know what you can spend, what you need to re-up. Or if you want to start some sort of barbershop or car wash — those were the businesses back then. Things you can get in easily to get out of [that] life. At some point, you have to have an exit strategy, because your window is very small; you're going to get locked up or you're going to die." too fucken hilarious to be true, and yet it is cano has to be beaming with confidence, knowing jay-z is comparing his upcoming contract talks as a drug deal, and he himself as a car wash or barbershop 10 years/$310MM??? good luck with that http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/jay-z-intimately-involved-robinson-cano-talks-contract-163246268--mlb.html __
Way overpaid? Compare it to the Lincecum deal and the gnats fuckin' stole him. Call me crazy (go ahead) but this is probably the best deal the pumpkins make for years to come.
Stupid ass comment from Jay Z but he is smart, you don't become the richest rapper of all time by being a fuckin moron.
If it is only a swap then Detroit made out like bandits. This also kills any idea people had of Kemp for Andrus.
Know where Matt is going? CF in Dodger Stadium. I think the Pads took a good risk with Johnson....their rotation is pretty damn good I think. They'll be a pain in the ass again. Is there no talk about the team being interested in signing Wilson? WTF? Are they crazy? How can you let this guy walk? And all of a sudden, we're gonna be real cautious about spending? So then, what was all the bullshit for with all the huge conracts? We lost , as usual....and we have some definite holes...but we're back in McCourtland because we have to "temper" spending? Sounds like a crock of shit to me. If it holds true, then we are right back where the fuck we started from... ...and it warms the cockles of me heart, boyos, to know that there is another Belisario type idiot on the team in Ryu, who has work visa/permit problems too? This should be fun to see unfold....
This doesn't surprise me. Jay-Z needs to rep NBA players and NFL wide receivers only. Baseball isn't going to buy into his ghetto act. Imagine that guy representing an NHL star. LOL
Based on the needs of both teams, seems like it could be a couple of interesting fits. Both players have their warts, but both fill big holes for their new team. It will be interesting to see how Kinsler does outside of Texas. Lifetime OPS in Texas is .898 and on the road .710(including a disastrous .627 in Detroit). As for Fielder, diminishing power and weight could be an issue, but at least in Texas he can DH more and I'm sure the way the ball flies down there it could help his power numbers a bit. I mentioned this in an earlier thread, but I have felt from the start that the Tigers would be the biggest threat to the Yankees to nab Cano. Now freeing up the Prince money could allow their desperate owner more of an opportunity to pursue Cano now.
Angels, Cardinals Have Discussed David Freese Trade By Steve Adams [November 21 at 9:43am CST] The Angels and Cardinals have had discussions about a trade that would send David Freese to the Angels, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (Twitter link). The Angels have been primarily focused on acquiring pitching this offseason, but they have a need at third base as well after trading Alberto Callaspo to the A's this July. Of course, it's possible that Anaheim GM Jerry Dipoto could try to convince the Cardinals to part with some of their young arms in the deal as well, though that's just my own speculation at this point. Freese, 30, had a down season at the plate in 2013, slashing .262/.340/.381 with just nine homers. He was significantly better in 2012, when he belted 20 homers and batted .293/.372/.467 in 144 games. Freese is typically regarded as a solid defender at third base, but both The Fielding Bibleand Ultimate Zone Rating graded his work poorly this season. Freese began the season on the DL with a back strain, and if that pain lingered throughout the season, it could explain his decline on both sides of the game. __
Angels have "serious" discussions about acquiring Cardinals' David Freese by Tim Brown | Yahoo! Sports -- 21 hours ago Discussions on a trade that would send St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese to the Los Angeles Angels for outfielder Peter Bourjos were termed "serious" by one source Thursday. The Angels' first priority this winter is to add pitching, but they also traded away Alberto Callaspo last summer, leaving another hole at third base. The speedy, defense-first Bourjos is the fourth man in an outfield of Mike Trout, Josh Hamilton and J.B. Shuck. Freese, who will be 31 in April, was MVP of the 2011 World Series and NLCS for the Cardinals. He batted .262 with nine home runs in 138 games in 2013, then really struggled during the postseason, batting .179 as the Cardinals lost the World Series in six games to the Boston Red Sox. In the absence of Freese, the Cardinals likely would move Matt Carpenter from second base to third, opening second base for rookie Kolten Wong. Foxsports.com first reported the talks. __
Freese is so overrated. Has one great postseason and everyone thinks he's the most "clutch" guy around.
Done deal. Freese for Borjos (sp?) Seems low risk high reward for the angles. Gave up pretty much nothing of real value.
