We only needed a single…goes for the grand slam. Mookie remains the best player on the team until further notice
5 shutout innings from the starter and 14 hits by the offense... the team was MANAGED to a loss tonight.
Yup, and he should have started that inning. Gutsy performance by Hurt, but you already got two innings out of him, you don't bring him in with the courtesy runner on base for a third. Not unless you're Roberts.
The biggest mistake Guggenheim keeps making is not firing Roberts. How many unbelievable teams has he been given only to flounder? @irish is right, he is to the Dodgers what Del Harris was to the Lakers.
to recap, Dave Roberts: -took Yamamoto out too soon -put in a pitcher that is known for control issues in wet conditions -not only put that pitcher in wet conditions, but vs a bunch of left handed hitters -then also left him in to let 5 runs cross the plate before taking him out Friedman isn't losing blame either. the fact that Vesia is the only normal LHP in the bullpen is a problem considering they don't use Yarbrough like a loogy, they use him like a long man.
Managing had nothing to do with failing to plate any runs against Launch Lynn. Game should have been in the bag before the rain delay. No excuse for not pulling Kelly earlier, though.
It goes on, unabated, like the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. It will never change as is. "As is" in the form of Dave. He is being touted and complimented more than ever now it looks, lionized because of comely personality traits like smiles and his upbeat personlity quirks, like a talking head main stream media for Biden does every night. "You can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of time", said Abe. Only this season, with the " bonanza" acquisitions historically all going the Dodgers way, it will be felt worse than ever. He is not only blatant, regularly incompetent, imo, he has now become a curse. Bona fide curse. Success for a baseball team has many levels, and he pilots a super talented, ultra elite team to a level which sates the FO and their criteria very well. PR and the Hollywood mentality included. But for the faithful, he is a recurring harbinger and reminder of scheduled failure. If players like Ohtani, Yamamoto and Hernandez, to name only some, came to the Dodgers to " win a WS", as we are reminded frequently, then they aren't paying enough attention to results. I definitely agree, however, it does look like a lock on paper. As much as a game can- given a sport's ebb and flow. And therein lies the rub.
We are going to win a ton of games this season. But come play off time if our bottom half does not help produce and we can not give rest to our “top” pitchers by depending upon Kelly-Braiser-Vesia to be able to get us through innings 6-8 then we will have worn out our top four by play off time and won’t do much. Not a huge Roberts fan but we can not right now use Hudson and Phillips EVERY game. Hopefully not a long wait on Treinen and Graterol. And yes I trust Kelly more then the others not named Hudson or Phillips
Yes what you called for bringing in Phillips might be the best option. Ended up bringing him in any way to make sure it stayed a 1 run game But hey I’m sure he will be fine end of season after pitching 100-120 games. STL scored on two routine grounders to short. the one move I would see a question about is leaving Kelly in to face the batter he baulked against. Options were Hurt Feyereisen or Varland. I can understand totally why stayed with Kelly. But I wanted a change there. But then I am one who almost “always” blames the players when they FAIL in situations they should succeed rather than the manager. IE no guarantee changing Kelly is going to keep STL from adding runs. But that 5 run inning was 33 percent why we lost. Other 33 percent failing to get a runner home from third in first inning after loading bases NO outs.. we also failed another time to get runner from third 1 out and again failed to score bottom half 10th to tie it. It just frustrates me a bit when the manager gets all the hate blame while the team players get zero for leaving 13 men on base and constantly not getting clutch TWO out hits or solid at bats with RISP
Can't believe it...was forced to watch Willie Wonka, then turned on MLB immediately, and was watching last night''s game! Finally caught up with reality and witnessed the really nice comeback to make it 5-4 LA. Not a drop to drink either. Dropped acid, though...
