I guess I' m just not getting it...how good is it because we got "cheaper" up the middle ( don't even get why fans on a website care about Guggs profit margin swelling, but whatever), and then later in the same post and others, complain about deals and the economical product on the field is not apropos for a LAD product. Agreed. And that the FO had "good" off season signings, but many of the "genius" deals have not come to fruition and some are pretty much flat out busts. Or at best, mediocre. Sounds like they are great and they suck, all at the same time.

The team had just lost two out of three to the first-place Giants in San Francisco. Players and coaches drifted in and out of manager Dave Roberts' office, joining the conversation. The topic, third baseman Justin Turner said, was "what we want to do, who we want to be." Roberts ordered the departure of the bus delayed by 30 minutes. The discussions continued on the bus, with other players joining the dialogue, then on the back of the plane during the team's flight to Phoenix. Since then, coincidentally or not, the Dodgers have been a different team, winning eight of their past 10 games, including six straight before falling to the Pirates on Friday night, 8-6. "It was a great self-evaluation," Turner said Friday. "Guys were talking in truths: 'This is how I feel.' It was eye-opening for everyone. And it really opened up a line of communication with the whole team. It's been going on since that day, constant communication about everything." Roberts said that Turner was the first player to visit his office after the Dodgers lost their second straight one-run game to the Giants following a victory by Clayton Kershaw in the opener. First baseman Adrian Gonzalez, catcher A.J. Ellis and relievers J.P. Howell and Kenley Jansen were among the others who participated in the discussion, according to the manager. "I felt like a lot of guys were given a forum to get a lot of things off their chests," Ellis said. "There was nothing out of bounds. People weren't afraid to say things that maybe they were holding in for a couple of years." Ellis credited Roberts, the Dodgers' first-year manager, with encouraging the impromptu state-of-the-union. "It speaks to Doc's communication skills, his openness," Ellis said. "He delayed the buses on getaway day by 30 minutes. He wasn't going to rush that conversation. "When we got on the bus, the guys who were not in the meeting wanted to know why we were late. It spurred more conversation on the bus." Said Roberts: "We were just talking as a team, what we can do, what we can all do to get better, what separates us from the Giants. It was very transparent, a very honest discussion from the coaches to the players. "It's bigger than losing two of three. It's a fundamental thing that we wanted to figure out within our group. So now, another player sees us talking and says, 'What are you guys talking about?' Then another player comes in, then another player. It went from the culture to the offense to the pitching to the defense. To everything. It was a very productive discussion . . . powerful." Five days later, Turner and catcher Yasmani Grandal engaged in a dugout argument after a base-running mistake by Grandal. But to hear Roberts tell it, that public disagreement was a healthy byproduct of the conversations in San Francisco. Roberts said he noticed a difference in the team afterward. "There was," Roberts said. "It's really guys just taking ownership of each other and themselves. There was that incident that was documented with Yasmani and J.T. I really believe that these guys can't be afraid to call one another out for the right reasons. The best teams are when players police things and are not afraid to hold each other accountable." Turner noted that the Dodgers began playing better after the roundtable in Roberts' office, but was careful to add, "you can't say that's why." The Dodgers actually have lost ground to the Giants in the NL West during their recent revival, falling from five out on June 12 to seven back due to the Giants’ recent 10-1 run. Still, the Dodgers are less than two years removed from a season of in-fighting and distrust that author Molly Knight detailed in her book "The Best Team Money Can Buy." The chemistry improved last season, but manager Don Mattingly did not return by mutual agreement with the front office, eventually joining the Marlins. It remains to be seen whether the Dodgers' San Francisco Summit will lead to a sustained cultural shift. But it was a start. "It just happened. It wasn't organized at all. That's probably why it had the impact it had," Turner said. "It was just guys who cared." Start a new W streak today.

IIRC they did have a team meeting somewhere within the first 2 or 3 weeks of the season..I think the difference was that one may have been organized by Roberts and of course this one was impromptu with Turner and others stepping forward instead. But perhaps it didn't happen before opening day because no one wanted to drudge up old fuckery at the start of a brand new season? Turner was the 1st guy into Roberts' office, and we know how long he infamously sucked in the 3 spot, so maybe he at least knew he wasn't going to be able to back up any sort of talk at the start of the season anyway? Maybe kicking off the meeting @SF was the true sign that Turner felt better and was finally up to it at that point? Of course they're not about to win every game left on the schedule because of the meeting, that sort of magic just doesn't exist. Even CK likely has a couple more Ls in store, but how they lose should definitely matter. They ultimately came back a couple times behind the O yesterday and gave themselves a chance to win. For the psyche of a team, at the very least you wanna feel like you had a chance to win or that you didn't completely suck. MLB is so rigorous and can beat you down, you can use your fair share of moral Ws. We'll see if they respond in similar fashion today. I've been looking for urgency for a long time, so YD's comments about " laying back " pissed me off.

The move clears space for infielder Chris Taylor, who has been promoted from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The Dodgers selected Tepesch’s contract yesterday, and he started last night against the Pirates, allowing five runs in four innings and throwing in the high 80s. The start was his first big-league action since 2014, when he was in the Rangers’ rotation. He’s spent the bulk of the 2016 season at Triple-A, where’s he’s posted a 3.66 ERA, 5.2 K/9 and 1.5 BB/9 in 83 2/3 innings.
