I think he'd be more than useful in the bullpen to be honest, we don't really have a good lefty on lefty type of guy (Ferguson and Alexander are more about being good against righties and lefties)
Can't say enough how disappointed I am in Manny Machado. The dude has done nothing to move the needle for this team. Yes, he's essentially replacing Seager so it's not like he was going to net us a bunch of wins, but he does not look like a superstar. Turner, despite being way older and less gifted, is twice the player he is. I'm not even an "intangible" guy...but I wouldn't trust Machado in a big spot. Ever.
It's just hard to fathom. Manny was hitting .315 with Baltimore. Since his move to LA, he's hitting .269. Dozier was hitting .227 with Minnesota... certainly uninspiring, yet better than the .193 that he's posted with us. Meanwhile, we trade away Forsythe and his dismal .207 average, only to see him hit .281 over 128 ABs for the Twins. We thought we were unloading a dead weight - how ironic that it's Minnesota who should be celebrating that deal. So what gives? Surely the ballpark doesn't make THAT much of a difference. It's got to be the mindset in the clubhouse. Seemingly ours is to swing for the fences in every AB. But when you play for other teams, you look for getting on base and situational hitting, to manufacture runs. If this is true, then it's all on Roberts and his staff. He's clearly not getting the right message across to his players. But hell, if I played on a team where the manager throws in the towel in the 16th inning, or pushes back our best starting pitcher to start against a tougher opponent when every game should count, I might start thinking that wins will come easy so then just go to the plate and hack.
wrc+ adjusts for park and league. They've definitely dropped off big time. We can't have nice things.
Besides the abysmal dropoff in average and mediocre"second half " power so far, Dozier's fielding is atrocious, as bad as Logan's was at third. I'm still very glad Logan is gone, he was a cooler for the team, a rally killer extraordinaire. But Dozier so far, is pure meat.
I take it as Forsythe is comfortable playing for mediocrities like Minny, San Diego and Tampa. Not so much for a team with expectations.
or he is just a puppet for the FO solo HR heaven and stranded runners at third w no out abound it baffles anyone who's ever watched the game but i've seen it happen so many times where he doesn't move runners and then suddenly he does a couple of innings later yesterday w grandal on third and no out he lets cement legs sit there and not score on a fly ball w all sorts of young legs and catchers on the bench in a close game then in the eighth grandal singles w two outs and he pinch runs for him...WTF
exactly that is why things like pulling guys during no hitters or sitting our best players during important games or when they are getting on a hot streak and all the other punk ass weak moves that this guy makes only serve to kill team spirit. someone needs to remind dave that team spirit and camaraderie is not about everyone being nice to each other all the time its not about making sure everyone gets in the game so they can have their participation trophy its not about half measures and waiting things out or going left because last time we went right it didnt work out you go right when its the right move and you go left because it is the right move too.
This series was dumb but I still have blind optimism in this team. They’ve done well against good teams in big series and the next two series are huge. Stil only 1 game back, and its right there in front of us to take. The team has been frustrating as hell in their underachieving but can still do this. We saw last year when they had an absolutely garbage September that they can flip a switch during the playoffs and show out their talent. Why not again?
These same moves led a team to multiple division and playoff series wins, and 1 win away from a World Series, man. Unless you think we lost the World Series because Stripling got pulled from a no hitter, or Turner got a day off sometimes,... the moves are kinda frustrating at times but really, not that big a deal. The one constant is the players need to play to their talent level and exceed in the advantageous situations they’re placed in.
