Just to clear something up in my mind on the consecutive scoreless innings streak...did Orel get taken out in the ninth inning in any of his games? I was under the impression a pitcher had to complete the games...like Orel pitched 6 shutouts in a row....and four more scoreless innings. Anyone? Anyone?
That game was just pretty much us saying to the Rockies go sit in the corner, we gotz some biziness to do. Dominated.
can't recall but pretty sure most of them were complete games he pitched 10 innings in san diego to break dd's record side note: orel also pitched an additional 8+ scoreless against the mets in game one of the nlcs before finally surrendering a run
Orel's streak started with 4 shutout innings to finish a game, then he had 6 shutouts in a row, all complete games, including a 10 inning game against SD to break the record. No rule about it having to be complete games, just going to happen more in the era the records were set; from Walter Johnson to Big D to Orel.
I have a feeling that tomorrow is gonna be one of those 10-8 games, luckily the bullpen is well-rested.
