POSTSEASON fml thread

Y'know my best find is a Yankee fan from Brooklyn originally, one of the completely crushed Dodger faithful that adopted the Yankees when the Flock moved west.
I told him that this is a hard one for me, given the cheating fucking Astros, and the Dodger childhood perennial bullies, the Yankess. He said "are you still on that cheating kick? C'mon man, all teams cheat, and use whatever they need to do it...the Astros were just the first to get caught red- handed...you remember Bobby Thompson, don't you? That was latest technology cheating at the time. Binoculars" .
He thought that the Yankees wouldn't win this, because the Astros are a great team, and merciless in the playoffs, with a constant flow of top talent ball players year after year. And after years of sucking, they are in it every year now.
Now, I still. say FUCK THE ASTROS, (and fuck the Yankees, too), but he's right...100% correct.
And no matter how much vitriol and creative insult we come up with about them, ain't gonna change the fact that he is right.
They are a great team.
In fact, they are much like us, only they don't have that guy Dave Roberts.

 

I was thinking the same.
Looking at this henious situation which has developed, interesting to me that it wasn't the big Soto/ Bell/ Drury acquisitions ( maybe yes on Hader, though) that got them there really. It was the basic team they had, and a truly killer bp, and starting staff that stepped up when needed that did. Which is all the more disheartening, considering the future with the LAD squarely within it's framework. Forever.
Sure, we kicked their regular season asses, but good. But in this post season environment we've got now, wtf does that matter one iota? As a quirky stat like LA and the Mets back when ?
Big deal.
These are the cards all baseball has been dealt, like it or not, so you play your hand.

 

You said it...y'know the FO sees the same thing we do, but will not make a move on Dave because their bottom line is asses in the seats. The fact that he negotiates the day to day filling of DS is tantamount to them, and like it or hate it, that is the power his extensions. Different bottom line.
But, how about delivering a WS WINNER?
Not FO front and center, really..we get just an empty guarantee from a vapid ex ballplayer, who just simply looked beaten before the games even started. He wins with them regular season, then folds like a cheap deck of cards.
Firing a manager that has a talented, powerful, should-win-it team for limp, utter post season collapse is not unheard of...it happens all the time.
For the other 29 teams, that is.

The thing about affirmative action is it was very necessary until it wasn't. It's as effective now as making the best buggy whip ... congrats. A few thousand Amish guys might buy it. Except thoe guys make their own buggy whips.

If LA wanted a black manager who was competent... they had at least 50 choices better than Dave. They still do. But they want a jellyfish with no stingers. And until then ... they'll never be serious about winning with this generation of players.

Too bad for Urias, Vargas, Outman and the other 20somethings on the field and in the pipeline. In these next three years, they'll go to waste because this team harbored a wastrel like Belli, traded for Kimbrel when they already had closers (not Kenley btw), and hoarded prospects while trading away Yordan Alvarez because some honky didn't know one Latino from another.
