WIZARDS AGREE TO TERMS WITH SCOTT BROOKS Washington has agreed in principle to hire coach Scott Brooks, his agent told ESPN's Marc J. Spears. Brooks has agreed to a 5-year, $35 million deal, according to Yahoo! Sports. Big shots fired here, Durant's old coach for big money in Durant's hometown. What's going on here?
That won't work next season, I think the pick now goes to Philly and is top 2 protected only. In other words, the pick will eventually go to Philly if they keep tanking.
And there's a 45% chance they lose the pick this year. If that happens, I think they get to keep their pick next year. I think they still owe Orlando a first left over from the Howard trade. But that one may not be conveyed for a while.
2016 first round draft pick to Philadelphia L.A. Lakers' 1st round pick to Philadelphia (via Phoenix) protected for selections 1-3 in 2016 and 1-3 in 2017 and unprotected in 2018 [L.A. Lakers-Phoenix, 7/11/2012; Milwaukee-Philadelphia-Phoenix, 2/19/2015] 2018 first round draft pick to Orlando If at least two years after the L.A. Lakers conveyed a 1st round pick to Philadelphia, then the L.A. Lakers' 1st round pick to Orlando protected for selections 1-5 in 2018 and unprotected in 2019; if the L.A. Lakers have not conveyed a 1st round pick to Philadelphia by 2017, then the L.A. Lakers will instead convey their 2017 2nd round pick and 2018 2nd round pick to Orlando [L.A. Lakers-Orlando, 8/10/2012]
The Orlando thing was weird. Like if we conveyed a first round pick to Philly by 2018, then in 2018 we have to give the Magic that pick 1-5 protected. If we don't convey a pick to Philly by 2017, our 2017 2nd rounder goes to the Magic. Some screwy thing like that.
I loved the Philly fans that still clung to illusion that their GM had some evil genius plan that was going to lead to success. They'll probably get better with colangelo running the team.
Was checking out the banners at Staples last weekend. Seems like soooooo long ago that the Lakers were relevant.
