MINOR LEAGUE/PROSPECTS Thread

Many people dont like Klaw, but I do. And he's not a bandwagon guy. If he's high on a player, there's something there. He's actually more on the conservative side most of the times.

 

KLaw on Guerrero (this is what he's heard from some org scouts and not his opinion)

Didn't hear anything positive. Nobody sees him playing short. Questions about much power. He's physically maxed out. Not a great runner. Not a carrying tool with him.

 

Starting to think all these scouts are racist.

 

If he were that underwhelming the Dodgers wouldn't have signed him.

 

I've seen stuff like that too. He's making 7 per, so if he's a super-sub who plays 2B, 3B and SS in a pinch and can take 300-400 AB's, I'd be more than content. Anything over a win share and a half season is a win at that price.

 

I want to know where this shit comes from. Prior to signing: Guerrero looks like he could be an above average bat with 20+ HR potential, good glove, but arm and range show for a move off of SS to 2B or 3B. After Signing: This guy looks like a reserve at best, won't hit for average, doesn't show much power and not much of a glove. It's like sour grapes after someone signs with an opposing team.

 

Pederson seems to be doing alright in the Valenzuela winter league (why the fuck we sent him there, I do not know). Avg is nothing great thus far, but hit his 3rd homer of the season tonight and walked 4 times to get to an even 20 in 55 PA's. Pederson batted 3rd with Jesus Montero and Joe Thurston watching his back in the 4 and 5 hole. The HR was off former major leaguer Matt Palmer.

Best Fastball: The Dodgers’ pitching-heavy draft features several good fastballs, led by RHP Chris Anderson (1), who has touched 98 mph and sits 94-95. He can throw strikes at that speed and pitches downhill. RHP Jacob Rhame (6) also reaches 96-97 mph and fits in a bullpen role, while LHP Michael Johnson (14) has reached 95 mph. » Best secondary pitch: LHP Tom Windle (2) had one of the draft’s best sliders, thrown with power at 84 mph and with hard, late break. Anderson will flash a plus, power curveball but isn’t consistent with it.

Best Pro Debut: Anderson (3-0, 1.96. 46 IP/50 SO) and Windle (5-1, 2.68, 54 IP/51 SO) both jumped straight to the low Class A Midwest League and thrived. C Kyle Farmer (8), who converted from playing shortstop at Georgia, hit .347/.386/.533 and threw out 39.5 percent of basestealers. Trinkwon tore up Ogden (.362/.411/.587) to move up to Great Lakes and hit six homers as a pro after hitting seven in three seasons at Long Beach State. » Best athlete: Bellinger likely would be a middle infielder if he didn’t throw lefthanded. » Most intriguing background: Bellinger’s father Clay earned two World Series rings with the Yankees and played for Greece’s 2004 Olympic team. Law’s grandfather Vern won the 1960 NL Cy Young Award with the Pirates in a 16-year major league career, while his father Vance played 11 big league seasons, then coached the son at Brigham Young.
