    - Prices for the remaining solid available relievers are said to be INCREDIBLY high. The last remaining teams looking at adding a back end reliever are said to prefer to wait until closer to the deadline where prices are believed to drop to more reasonable levels.

    - Passan reporting that he was told by someone with ties to the Nats ownership before the Marlins series, that if they didn't win at least 3 of 4 then they would likely move into sell mode(They split). The Phillies did not do anything this weekend losing 3 of 4 to the Reds nor did the Braves with them losing 3 of 4 to us. There is still little indication that they actually will sell since they were able to gain ground over the rough weekend, but if they did, Kelvin Herrera would likely become the most sought after reliever left on the market. Their GM Rizzo is said to be the one very against selling.

    - Johnny Cueto came out an said that he is still feeling the effects of an early season elbow injury. They thought he may be able to avoid TJ earlier, but now there is more worry within the Giants FO. If he needed the surgery, it would cost him all of 2019 and he would have 2+1 years remaining on his contract after that. This is bringing up some talk that the Giants COULD finally go into a minor sell mode, though there has been no mention that they would. This would actually be annoying to me as the pieces they could move would likely net a very solid return and bolster what has been a strengthening farm. Sam Dyson, Tony Watson and Will Smith would all be valuable assets and I would guess that the Giants would not be interested in sending any of them our way.

    - Adam Jones has nixed a couple potential trades, taking a decent OF piece effectively off the market. Rumors that Puig is very available(especially after Verdugo's recent call up) continue to come up and Jones refusal to take a trade could be good for the club if they do choose to move one of our many OF'ers.

I bet SoCal guy Adam Jones would accept a trade to LAD. He's been meh for a while though. Making quite a bit of scratch too, iirc. Given that, I don't know how much Jones would actually effect a market for Puig, but then again, it's Puig. But definitely fun to see Angelos getting blocked by someone else for once. Lol

It certainly seems like it's time for Verdugo to get the call for good. I mean, what else can he really do in the minors?

Someone " with ties to Nats' ownership " aka Kasten? I'm sure former Nats' guy Bowden gets his share of stuff from Kasten. Doubt Kasten would be talking to Passan though, but then again, you never really know for sure

7:43pm: In an interview with Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, Archer called the trade chatter surrounding him “unsettling.” Topkin again notes that the industry sense is that Tampa Bay is more willing than ever to trade Archer, and he adds that a young catcher and a power-hitting outfield prospect would be “a good start” to a package from the Rays’ vantage point.

DJ Peters and one of Keibert/Smith is exactly that. So like, Peters/Catcher/Yadier/Rios might be something but that seems like Rays would say that’s light

i think so since this guy is saying "a good start" but i think like someone said the market stalled on the high prices
i think a flurry of last minute stuff happens

I duno.......Archer is 30 in September, same age as Kershaw, however he does have 1000 less innings on his arm. His ERA has gone up over the last 3 years but his FIP has remained in the mid 3's but his WHIP is still in the 1.2 range.....not crazy good but not crazy bad. Im just not sure I would give up the haul it would take to get him. I bet the same haul it would take to get Archer could get DeGrom......im torn. I will say that I would be ok letting Verdugo and Smith go in any trade. I want to keep Kibert, and having Wong as insurance is good.

It's the year 2027. Trade deadline looms and the Rays are "serious" about trading Chris Archer.

    He is 2-8 with a 5.12 ERA.

Camello reporting that things have quieted on the Archer front, but the club is making progress towards acquiring Keone Kela from the Rangers.

One thing I noticed about Kela is that he’s deadly against righties but lefties hit him pretty hard. I’m sure Roberts would know this though if we land him and use him as a platoon pitcher, unless the Dodgers figure out a way through different approaches for Kela to do better against lefties.

If we land him though, he’d definitely be the 2nd best pitcher I’d want up there against a righty. He’d be a great deadline get, and I bet they can find a cheap lefty who can get lefties out (although I trust we’d be able to handle lefties internally with Alexander, Cingrani, Caleb, Wood, Urias all being playoff options)

    interesting...
kela's era up 0.65 this year
but his fip down nearly 0.30
strange his stats are significantly better at home (supposedly a hitter's park)... this year, last and career

    fwiw, espn rankings...

    5. Los Angeles Dodgers
    Record: 59-47

The Dodgers keep marching to their own beat, using a six-man rotation with so many of their pitchers on the mend and back in action, while juggling four different starting second basemen, using pairings like corner infielder Max Muncy at the keystone when contact killer Clayton Kershaw starts. But beyond the daily lineup mayhem, Matt Kemp is continuing to prove his comeback is no fluke; he's having his best season at the plate since 2012 thanks in part to an MLB-best 1.234 OPS against fastballs. -- Christina Kahrl, ESPN.com

Killing fastballs, but seems to be getting himself out on breaking balls away lately.
