All American sports leagues should do this. Fuck leagues, conferences, divisions, etc. take the best teams and let them play.

It won't happen though because the end game is money and rivalries make more money and people will defend the system because they are too stupid to know that rivalries will exist no matter what the system looks like.

It's a shame that a lot of the times some very good teams don't make the playoffs, in all the different sports, while some shit team does.

 

They'd also need to fix scheduling then. At least in basketball where there's a huge gap in talent. A 46-36 western team is way better than a 46-36 eastern team because the extra 20-30 games against eastern teams is a huge advantage for the east team. Cause no doubt that west team would be at ~55 wins with an easier schedule haha. I get why they do have divisions though and conferences, to limit travel on most occasions and establish rivalries like you said, but seeing the best teams compete would be a plus. That's why the ncaab model is pretty cool.

 

Yea, I totally agree with your assessment about the wins and that is even more reason that this structure would make more sense. Regarding travel, fuck these guys are paid millions of dollars and travel in 5-star style; so what if they travel more? Not trying to be a dick, but if I had to travel 7 months of the year (and travel the way they do) and make over a $1M guaranteed, I'd be down. Hell, there are people who travel more than these guys do for business for $100K a year.
