like you said at the end there.." still "..because consent? i mean that's the headcase/egotistical stuff i've been talkin about. Reyes was an instant upgrade at the position in every way, but the need for Hanley's ego to be stroked likely had to be as important as the Reyes addition itself.

and i fully understand that in some cases it's proper protocol to let your star player know about big deals such as that one, but after a deal that improves the team is done, it's done. there's no need to rail against it and be difficult. outside of it being selfish, it's also wasted energy.

but agreed, it's a different situation, however, this time around his team would be introducing a rookie to replace him @ SS while he moves to 3B to struggle and deal with frustrations as an older guy. just saying that the end result is likely to be the same..him being unhappy.

but to be fair to Hanley, he himself has said he knows he's gonna end up @ 3B at the end of his career. just imo, that doesn't mean he's not gonna be unhappy while struggling at a new position as an older guy. Hanley has a lot going on between his ears..even hayseed Donnie recognized it.

Definitely a crappy move by the Marlins. As I understand it they had Reyes under contract before Hanley even knew they were talking to him. A class organization (like the Dodgers) would have taken the time to let him know they were in negotiations and that if he were indeed signed it would be a shift in positions for him. Then if he railed against it, fuck him, trade his ass. But the Marlins are certainly guilty of a show of no respect, and I understand Hanley being butt-hurt, because it was a dick move-no matter how much it improved the team. How would you like it if your boss called you one afternoon and said, "Hey, we just hired the guy who's going to do your job next year!"?

I dunno... Hanley's job is to be a baseball player. Reyes didn't take his job, he took his position. There's a big difference. The Marlins have done a lot of shitty things, I don't think this ranks anywhere near the list.

    Then we will disagree.

It was a total dick move. Common courtesy would dictate that you tell your star player you plan to negotiate with his potential replacement, and that if signed it would change his role on the team. Would you not pay Clayton Kershaw the respect and let him know you are about to enter into negotiations with Jesus Christ as the new team ace? (Say no, I fucking dare you. :carolinabluedodger:)

indeed. and it's the Marlins' job to improve the team.

however, if you're the supposed star and the front office doesn't contact you to let you know you're being replaced at your position..maybe it's because they've lost a level of respect for you after watching you dog it and force the manager to bench you for not respecting the game?..

..this happened to Hanley before Reyes arrived. Hanley was benched by Fredi Gonzalez for one of the most egregious plays of this era and he reacted to it like a baby..calling out Fredi Gonzalez and saying he lost respect for him and calling out his teammates after the incident. once again..a headcase. so maybe the organization felt like Ramirez wasn't to be afforded a courtesy call to notify him of the switch ( which was an upgrade). Hanley's gotta look in the mirror when that happens, but of course he wasn't gonna do that.

White Sox Receiving Interest In Alexei Ramirez
By Jeff Todd [November 6, 2014 at 3:35pm CST]
The White Sox have received solid early trade interest in shortstop Alexei Ramirez, according to a report from Bruce Levine of CBSChicago.com. Chicago has been contacted by the Mets, Yankees, and Dodgers regarding the 33-year-old.

Ramirez has one year left on his deal at an affordable $10MM. He also comes with a $10MM option for 2016, which carries a $1MM buyout. Though he could not maintain his hot start to the year, Ramirez ended with a solid .273/.305/.408 slash to go with 15 home runs and 21 steals. A well-regarded defender, Ramirez compiled 4.1 rWAR and 3.3 fWAR.

let's do it. this guy can't NOT play 158 games. 9 inning player.

I like it too but the Sox want frontline pitching and other than our top 3 we don't have it and Urias BETTER be untouchable!!!!! Maybe they'll take a flier on Zack but I doubt it.

Hanley Ramirez‘s strong desire to play shortstop — or the infield in general — will be a detriment to his free agent stock, Olney writes. He suggests that Ramirez announce to teams right now that he is willing to play a corner outfield position, shortstop or third base next season in order to create the strongest market possible for his services. Olney rightly points out that the idea of Ramirez in a corner outfield spot would broaden his appeal to numerous clubs and help to create a bidding war for his services. It doesn’t seem that Ramirez is changing his plans anytime soon, however. As Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times pointed out today (Twitter link), Ramirez has changed his Twitter bio to read “MLB Shortstop.”

O'REEEEALLY? c'mon, Farhan and Friedman..get a deal done for Alexei and see if Hanley changes his Twitter bio again. Lol

    now this..

Hanley Ramirez Open To Position Change
By Steve Adams [November 7, 2014 at 2:01pm CST]

It’s been speculated that Hanley Ramirez‘s desire to play shortstop will temper the demand for his services on the open market due to his sub-par work at the position, but Jon Heyman of CBS Sports hears that Ramirez is now telling clubs he’s willing to play third base or “wherever there’s a need.”

Just yesterday, ESPN’s Buster Olney speculated that opening up to the possibility of playing elsewhere on the diamond would likely enhance interest in Ramirez. If he’s open to playing third base or even left field, Ramirez’s suitors could indeed grow, although Ramirez has never played a professional game in the outfield in the minors or Majors, so clubs may be hesitant to drop him into that role with no prior experience.

smart move. outfield and DH should probably lead the way as far as his best positions going forward go. can't see why anybody would prefer to have all his fundamental issues at 3B

and still no rejected QO, btw. his offers must suck ass..now likely tryin to open up the market and get more teams involved.

    i missed this. Lol

if Kershaw had acted as shitty as Hanley did in Miami with his slacking, public insubordination with Fredi Gonzalez and calling out teammates because of his own fuck ups..the last thing i'd worry about would be giving Kershaw a courtesy call.

    and no.
