what direction is your team heading in and what league do they play in? what might be their name?

just saying..Hanley did look like the next softball great for much of last season.

how can you question them when you think " Hanley @ 3B makes perfect sense "??

I have no clue what that means

and what's wrong with Hanley at 3B down the line? his defense would be shaded easier there.

i don't even think Hanley himself is ready to take over and be half the player he used to be. Lol

this front office's scope isn't nearly as shortsighted as you're being. if it were that way, we'd have David Price right now.

no, I actually was totally against David Price.

re-signing Hanley isn't costing us prospects nor blocking them.

quite a bit, actually. he has a hitch..he's constantly having trouble gripping the baseball and making a smooth transfer..he's brittle and 3B requires a high level of durability because it's a hot spot, etc.

or the Dodgers could sign a real 3rd baseman and give their elite starting pitching a chance to dominate?

:sarcasm:... hey rox, how about carl, ethier and wilson for tulo? :duck:

Rockies Willing To Listen On Tulowitzki
By Jeff Todd [November 5, 2014 at 6:20pm CST]

The Rockies have told other teams that they are willing to consider trade scenarios involving Troy Tulowitzki, according to a report from Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

While the likelihood of a deal remains rather slight, and Tulowitzki isn't being shopped around, the report does indicate that Colorado is much more open to moving him than it had been previously. Notably, Rosenthal says that the Rockies are telling clubs that they will not accept a return that does not provide fair value.

Needless to say, there is a large gap between a theoretical willingness to trade a player and a realistic chance of a deal getting done. In this case, that divide may be wider than usual. While Tulowitzki is arguably the very best shortstop in baseball, he has missed long stretches of time in recent years with hip, groin, and wrist surgeries, along with various other maladies. And he is due $20MM per year from 2015-2019, plus $14MM in 2020 and a $4MM buyout in 2021.

let's get into a bit of the " etc. " as well..which has more to do with the tool between Hanley's two ears..

Hanley is a well-known headcase..is it ideal for the Dodgers to be the team that switches his position and potentially upsets him after locking him up long term? it'd only be history repeating itself, just in a different location. and as far as having him a 1yr deal..is it ideal to 1) let a headcase know that he's not in the long term plans of the team while keeping him around another year and 2) putting him in another 1yr/contract year situation when the 1st go round wasn't all that pretty?

also, are we sure that Donnie Dum Dum isn't put into pressing situations and lifting " 3rd baseman Hanley " for a defensive replacement in the 8th inning at that position as well? a 4 or 5yr deal, north of 70-80 million dollars for a declining 7 inning player with nerve issues in his back? sounds like it's more ideal for a club with a DH.

what's fair value for a guy who can't stay healthy for shit?

a plea to all the " Hanley guys " in the clubhouse.

in other words.." to all my highly paid ' Hanley guys ' in the clubhouse..we're gonna try to keep your guy and when he leaves it doesn't mean you're next. "

Realistically, you know the Dodgers would be upfront in the negotiation and let him know any deal is contingent on his change of position. It's not like he's going to sign a contract and as the proverbial ink is drying say, "oh yeah, we're moving you to 3rd base..." So this is not even remotely a point.

of course they'd be up front, but that doesn't mean he'd be happy once he's out there in the field. a big contract can make you smile and accept anything during negotiations..hell, he can always ask for a trade later -- after he secures his loot.

Does Hanley really care about playing SS though? Or does he just care about getting a contract as a SS?

impossible to know for sure, but he made a big stink about moving to 3B when the Marlins brought in Reyes. dude is a headcase and was obviously overly aggressive at the plate this year while trying to score an Ellsbury deal, so it wouldn't shock me if he said whatever he had to say to get the long term deal from the Dodgers or if he followed that up by being unhappy playing the position. i mean we already know he'd struggle @ 3B, so there will be a level of frustration there. that's the kind of stuff you have to think about when in a front office role.

i think the marlins was different because they brought in a star SS to replace him without his prior consent
    still...
