personally i would prefer this to get done sooner rather than later ck is a once in a generation dodger like koufax, like fernando lock him up... Dodgers, Kershaw Have "Mutual Interest" In ExtensionBy Mark Polishuk [February 7 at 8:19pm CST]If Ned Colletti has his way, we won't be hearing much about his club's negotiations about a new contract with Clayton Kershaw, but the Dodgers general manager did tell Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times that both sides share an interest in getting a deal done."This is not going to be a daily discussion point for us publicly," Colletti said. "But there is a mutual interest."Kershaw said last summer that he would be open to negotiating an extension, and while it has been assumed that the Dodgers would explore the topic this winter, Kershaw said that no talks had taken place as recently as two weeks ago. Kershaw signed a two-year, $19.5MM extension last February that covered his first two arbitration-eligible seasons, and he'll have one more arbitration eligible year under team control before hitting free agency after the 2014 season. While Kershaw is controlled through 2014 and there's no immediate rush to work out an extension, the Dodgers may wish to finalize a deal quickly given the ever-rising prices of frontline pitching. Felix Hernandez's reported seven-year, $175MM agreement with the Mariners sets a new standard in the pitching market and Justin Verlander (also a free agent after 2014) has an interest in discussing an extension with the Tigers. It seems like just a matter of time before we see a pitcher signing a $200MM deal, a number that Kershaw could get from the Dodgers and would absolutely get as a 26-year-old free agent if he kept up his current form. __
I would certainly hope so that there is a "mutual interest" in an extension....if not, we have serious problems, and Ned, always a favorite of mine, should be front and center on this. No procrastination; can you imagine CK NOT being an LAD? Look away....
they need to lock CK for an eternity contract, with mutual options for every year from now to 2050, with an annual salary raise of 5%...
It's not extending a guy like say, manny Ramirez, for lack of being to think of anyone else. Y'know, a great baseball player in what he specifically does(or did) But Clayton is a genuine humanitarian, a good man, a caring guy (along with his wife). This does almost as much for the LA Dodgers as his spectacular performances on the field. Guys' the whole package man...get it done Ned. And which Lowe did the team sign?
i ♥ ck he, more than most other athletes, gets it... The Dodgers' outstanding young starting pitcher, Clayton Kershaw, says that he is not thinking about whether or not he can top the Felix Hernandez contract, Tracy Ringolsby or MLB.com writes. Kershaw explains that he'll "play the game the same way" regardless of salary because "it's the best job you could have. ... I talk to my buddies all the time. They are putting on suits and ties, and going to the office every day. I put on a uniform and play a game." http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/kershaw
Gotta get this deal done. Clayk is on his way to being a dodger great and he can't get away especially when the FO can give him as much money as they want. No excuse.
Clayton Kershaw's agents, Casey Close and J.D. Smart, were at the Dodgers' training site Wednesday, which could mean that Kershaw and the Dodgers are negotiating a contract extension, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick suggests. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/03/kershaw.html
With today's news of a big extension for Adam Wainwright, attention could turn to another ace who could be extended: the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw. According to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times, however, Kershaw does not want to keep negotiations open past spring training and is staying quiet as to whether there has been any progress. Hernandez also notes that Kershaw's agents, Casey Close and J.D. Smart, visited Dodger camp a week ago but were not not actively discussing a Kershaw extension. __
Dodgers Now Steve Dilbeck and The Times' Dodgers reporters give you all the news on the boys in blue Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw mum on extension talks Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw signs autographs for fans during spring training. (Getty Images) By Dylan Hernandez March 27, 2013, 3:00 p.m. PEORIA, Ariz. -- Five days before his opening-day start, Clayton Kershaw maintained his previously stated position that he didn't want to negotiate a contract extension while the season started. Kershaw wouldn't say if he thought a new deal could be reached by April 1. "Never know," he said. Kershaw wouldn't even acknowledge that there have been any talks. "I don't want to talk about it," he said. Kershaw's agents, Casey Close and J.D. Smart, visited the Dodgers camp last week to watch another of their clients, Zack Greinke, pitch in a minor league game. At the time, Close and Smart weren’t in active talks with the Dodgers about a new deal for Kershaw, according to a person familiar with the situation. Kershaw is under contract for $11 million this year and will be eligible for salary arbitration next year. He will be eligible for free agency after the 2014 season. Kershaw used his final spring start on Wednesday as a tuneup for his opening-day assignment. Facing the Seattle Mariners over three innings, he was charged with three runs and five hits. Two of the runs came on a first-inning home run by Michael Morse. __
Mike Petriello @mike_petriello7mReady for some fun? hearing reliably that today's extension-fest isn't quite over. I believe LAD & Kershaw are getting close on 8/$200m deal
