Good. Hopefully he can hit a fastball when he gets back. His defense is great. But his offense was alarmingly bad before he was sent down.

Puig subject to closed-door meeting prior to potential call-up
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 2 hours ago

There haven’t been many off-the-field surprises since the Los Angeles Dodgers demoted Yasiel Puig to Triple-A Oklahoma City after the Aug. 1 non-waiver trade deadline. For that matter, there also hasn’t necessarily been anything unexpected on the field.

Puig was improved at the plate upon returning from the disabled list, and he’s punished Triple-A pitching thus far. Over 19 games with Oklahoma City, the mercurial outfielder is batting .348/.400/.594 with three doubles, four home runs and 12 RBI.

One blip on the radar was Puig’s decision to post a series of videos to Snapchat, which showed him and OKC teammates drinking and enjoying a night out on a party bus.

The Dodgers placed Puig on revocable waivers on Sunday, and he was unsurprisingly claimed shortly thereafter. Puig said he wasn’t surprised by the club’s decision to put him on trade waivers.

Although Los Angeles isn’t expected to trade their 25-year-old outfielder at present time, what the immediate future holds remains unclear.

Even while praising Puig for his current play, Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman and manager Dave Roberts have remained noncommittal when the topic of a potential call-up this month has been broached.

Accoriding to Tracy Ringolsby of MLB.com, prior to Puig potentially joining the Dodgers now that active rosters have expanded, there will first be a closed-door meeting:

"A callup could come as early as Thursday, when the active rosters expand from 25 players to 40, but Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said no decision has been made on Puig’s situation, and before any decision is made, there will be a closed-door meeting with Puig."

In 81 games with the Dodgers this season, the Cuban outfielder hit .260/.320/.386 with 10 doubles, seven home runs and 34 RBI. More than production at the plate, there are said to be concerns with Puig’s work ethic.

On Wednesday, Roberts specifically mentioned Luis Avilan, Austin Barnes, Louis Coleman and Josh Ravin as those who will be part of an initial wave from the Minors. Avilan joined the Dodgers as their 26th man for the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader at Coors Field.

NL team pursued trade for Puig
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 42 minutes ago

While the Los Angeles Dodgers were said to have put several players on revocable waivers during August, their doing so with Yasiel Puig garnered the most attention. The move came three weeks after Puig was demoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

That took place after Los Angeles was unable to trade their enigmatic outfielder prior to the Aug. 1 non-waiver deadline. The decision to option Puig spawned from the organization taking issue with his work ethic and off-the-field behavior.

Puig has drawn praise from Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman and manager Dave Roberts for his handling of the demotion and success with Oklahoma City.

However, to interpret that as a guarantee of sorts that Puig will remain with the club into next season is ill-advised.

To no surprise, Puig was claimed on waivers. According to Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball, multiple clubs put in a claim, which went to a National League team that attempted to work out a trade:

    Jon Heyman ✔ @JonHeyman
It was an NL club that won the claim on Puig and they did make some attempt to trade for him. Multiple teams put claim in.
    10:33 AM - 1 Sep 2016

Teams that were previously linked to Puig include the Atlanta Braves and Chicago White Sox. While Atlanta was thought to have interest if Puig hit the waiver wire, previous reports indicated they did not claim him.

Once scenario believed to have been plausible was team with the winning claim simply wanted to block Puig from potentially going to another club. Although the Dodgers did not move the Cuban native, a trade in the future can’t be ruled out.

Even with praise from Friedman and Roberts, the Dodgers haven’t so much as committed to calling up the 25-year-old now that active rosters have expanded. A closed-door meeting reportedly will be held with Puig prior to a potential call-up.

    Meeting goes like this -
    " Ayayaiiiiiiiiii!!! I back!!! " - Puig
" Calm down. We just want you up here so you're not around Bellinger/Verdugo/Calhoun when they're called to OKC. " - FO
    " :( " - Puig

Roberts confirms "Yasiel is definitely on his way. He'll be in the lineup tonight, playing right field" #Dodgers

Roberts: "Yasiel has done everything we asked of him, we felt ultimately that he makes us better, that was the deciding factor" #Dodgers

Roberts spoke w/players before calling up Puig "Andrew & I brought in some veteran players, felt it was fair to be honest w/players" #Dodgers

and what bandwagon would that be?
i don't recall anyone here ever questioning puig's production
wouldn't have been demoted if it had based solely on that

I see shots at him all the time about meaningless RBI's, not being able to hit fastballs etc. Myself and Rube are the only one's I recall arguing for Yasiel and I know the tendencies of this site.

He can hit hanging breaking balls and that's about it. Hopefully he'll make the adjustments this time around
