Unless the settlement means us playing on PrimeTicket for 15 more years or dealing with Fox in some way shape or form going forward.

What kind of settlement are we looking at? The only thing I can imagine is now that MLB is out of the "you cannot sell your TV rights" mode, FOX and the Dodgers will be TV partners in a settlement.

I don't see a situation where FOX walks away. There is just no way.

Could Fox still be in the bidding? Wouldn't that be something? Oh, sure - they say they aren't interested... but they've already been talking to Selig...

I really like this judge who is doing the mediation. He is the same one who mediated the agreement between MLB and McCourt to sell and it seems he may be working his magic again.

Are you okay with a settlement that keeps FOX in the long term picture?

I'm only okay with it if FOX ups its $ proposal from the 3 billion it was before

Great question. How the hell do I know! I Frank gone. I want Ned gone. I want Blackstone to work their magic in putting a good package in place for the franchise, how if that means Frank making a boatload I am ok with that. So I guess if having a great owner means keeping Fox I guess I am ok with that. Holly shit maybe Fox as a partner with Mr. Cuban.

What has me confused is that the settlement between Frank and MLB has yet to be submitted to Gross

Under the terms of a settlement it would be nice if McCourt agrees/is forced to sell the land if a media rights deal is reached. However, where would that come from? Does Fox really care about land as long as they get their money? Probably not. A new owner would most definitely care. That is 300 acres of land that could be developed. That's parking revenue lost. MLB SHOULD care about the land, but they appear content on the settlement as it stands, so there is no clear opposition to Frank keeping the land.

So the land will almost definitely belong to FuckFace, right? Who will take it away?

Much of the following was perhaps not an accurate read of the settlement between MLB and Frank. It gave Bud more credit than perhaps he deserved. However the last line from the article might be a good and perhaps head on observation.

If he fails to come up with the money to pay Jamie what he owes her, I imagine he would have no choice but to sell.

Remember Blackstone loves to blow things up and put them back together in bankruptcy resolution. Often the sum of the parts is greater than the whole. That may be what we are seeing play out now. We have three areas defined for sale consideration:
    1. Franchise/team stadium
    2. Land around stadium including parking lots
    3. TV broadcast rights

Different buyers will have different interests in which they truly want and have an expertise in. The may form partnerships around different interests. Sold individually those three parts would probably bring more money than if sold in one piece.
Wait a freaking minute. Hold on.

Cuban wants the franchise and the stadium and needs a financial partner
McCourt wants to keep the land around the stadium
    Fox wants the broadcast rights.

Damn Blackstone brokers a deal between the three of them and if Bud approves Cuban and Fox to be part of the ownership package and they already have said Frank can keep the land we have a deal. It becomes a win win win for the major players and the sale could be formalized by Christmas if approved by Frank who under the agreement with Bud has the final say. Dang when submitted to judge Gross would he really say no.

So even if he has no chance to keep the team why is he pressing so hard to sell the TV rights? wouldn't that make the team LESS valuable? Wouldn't that also saddle a new owner with a long term TV deal that he didn't get the upfront money on? What Billionaire would want to buy a team that he doesn't have the opportunity to start his own channel and make real money? This whole thing stinks out loud and we all know Fox will cave in and take a buyout deal.

Something in this seems fishy to me.

He wants to have a non binding process now so a new owner has a deal if they want to accept it down the road. Knowing that in theory they would pay more for the team. Since the settlement with MLB has neither been submitted nor approved by the court we can't say he has no chance to keep the team.

Was just reading a few articles about prospective buyers of the Dodgers and the rumors of very high profile names being involved. Got me to thinking about Matt Kemp and his future with us. Holy Toledo, I just realized the sheer marketing potential of Kemp and his loyalty to the franchise and being the face of the rebirth along with CK. Each of them could make millionsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss in endorsements each year. The contract Kemp signed is great but the potential earnings off the field are enormous. One of the articles was about the possibility of Aaron being an investor in buying the team( denied by him) but the sheer potential of Kemp and Kershaw being in the limelight with folks like Aaron or Larry King is off the chart. Larry King is evidently a partner in Gilberts team to buy the Dodgers. Gilbert is one of the potential owners who would be great. Teamed with Larry King they could be off the chart. They are great people, love the game and are most importantly devoted Dodger fans. At least King was but he said he would not renew his season tickets as long as McCourt owned the team. Cuban would be great as probably some others might be.

Kemp and CK could get not only the local marketing money but could get national exposure and become one of the faces of MLB. Hopefully they both perform and reach marketing icon status like Arod, Jeter etc. Would great for the franchise to get its juice back big time and have the national sports media following us on a daily basis because of what we do on the field. It is interesting which potential owners get national press as potential buyers.

One can't happen without the other. Neither will reach Jeter/A-Rod status until the franchise regains its credibility.

Selig, McCourt won’t testify in Dodgers bankruptcy
By RANDALL CHASE, AP Business Writer 1 hour, 10 minutes ago

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP)—A federal bankruptcy judge in Delaware says Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt and MLB Commissioner Bud Selig do not have to testify at a hearing next week on the team’s plan to sell media rights to future games.

Fox Sports, which has the current media rights contract with the Dodgers, sought to have Selig and McCourt testify at the hearing, but Major League Baseball and the Dodgers argued that their testimony was not necessary.

Following a hearing Wednesday, the judge agreed, saying testimony next week will be limited to expert witnesses for the Dodgers and Fox.

The Dodgers are seeking court approval of a process for marketing media rights for games in 2014 and beyond.

Fox has objected to the proposed sale process, saying it would violate its rights under the existing contract.
