Congrats to Charter area customers. Instead of hoping your cable/satellite company works out a deal for SNLA, all you really need is for your cable/satellite company to buy TWC... brilliant.

The prices they are charging me I ALMOST feel like a part owner of TWC IF they get this done.

I've had Charter for about 6 months but I'm sure there will be an extra charge for SNLA, especially since I'm 3,000 miles away.

In M&A transactions, there's a period of time between the signing of the deal and the closing of the deal. This time is spent obtaining, among other things, the necessary regulatory approvals (they will have to pass the hurdle that Comcast-TWC somewhat surprisingly failed). As a result, there's still a chance that the deal will fall through (it can for other reasons as well: material adverse effects, material breaches of the merger agreement, etc.).

Interestingly, unlike the Comcast-TWC deal, TWC is set to rake in $2BN if the deal fails.

DirecTV issues statement on SportsNet LA in wake of Charter agreement
by Matthew Moreno | Dodgers Nation — 7 hours ago

As the Los Angeles Dodgers’ bats have been stuck on zero in four of the last 10 games, there’s been significant progress off the field to end the SportsNet LA impasse. After Comcast’s unsuccessful attempt to purchase Time Warner Cable, Charter Communications has now stepped in.

Charter’s intention to purchase TWC means their customers will now be able to view Dodgers games on SportsNet LA within the next few weeks. While it’s undeniably a step in the right direction, holdouts from other pay-TV providers such as, AT&T U-Verse, Dish Network, and DirecTV remain an issue.

According to Meg James of the LA Times, DirecTV issued the following statement amid news of Charter’s pending purchase:

"We continue to hope TWC and the Dodger front office will compromise with the rest of Southern California's providers so all Dodger fans can watch their games without burdening everyone else with significantly higher fees," DirecTV said in a statement.

Although TWC’s asking price for SportsNet LA is on par with other major regional sports networks in the nation, it appears to be the major hurdle in a resolution being reached with all, or the majority of pay-TV providers.

In similar fashion to what’s transpiring between Charter and TWC, a merger of AT&T and DirecTV currently hangs in the balance, and upon completion, could too come with positive news regarding SportsNet LA.

I think the Charter-TWC merge is only going to strengthen the TWC stance. Dish, DirecTV, and all those guys are basically competitors, so now that customers are rushing to the phones to switch to Charter there will be even less urgency to make a deal. As stale as negotiations already were, I think this just set them back another 6 months (if that matters).

problem is the consumer doesn't really care
but if there were no other options -- unlocater, streams, etc... -- there would have been a much louder public outcry and this matter would have been resolved long ago
supply and demand, and with no demand both twc and the holdouts [att/dish/directtv] don't feel obligated to make a deal
just a shame that when then is finally resolved, vinny will have probably retired

I wouldn't hold my breath. ATTUverse will probably never carry SNLA, even if everyone else jumps on board. DSL carriers are all about low prices. I had CenturyLink internet in Las Vegas but never added the TV service because they refused to carry Prime Ticket, and everyone carried Prime Ticket. Honestly, if you aren't watching Dodger games in HD on your big screen TV by now, it's your fault.

agreed, but... i have a unique situation
the house i'm renting comes with free direct tv
    hbo, showtime, etc
so to get charter/twc/whoever would actually cost me a lot extra out of pocket
so i'll wait... and wait... and wait... and... :waiting:

Indeed I am not the only occupant of my abode
and the total U-Verse package is better in many other ways than the Time Warner bundled offerings

and <shock> the Dodgers are not everything in my life <blasphemy>

    and bkitching online is free
