GAME THREAD Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (Apr. 13th - 15th)

Pederson needs to be hitting higher, the lack of protection from the pitcher's spot isn't good for his chances to get pitches to hit. and it is ridiculous that our hottest hitter (Guerrero) is not playing and SVS and Urine are.

 

interesting to see Grandal in the 2-spot, but understandable. Grandal could use the protection and SVS is better suited to provide protection.

 

still early of course, but at some point it's gonna be undeniable that they've gotten everything they could out of Uribe the last 2 years and that the old man is in his swan song. hey, it happens. we'll see if they " protect him from himself " in a month or so and maybe put him on the DL for rest and slowly move Guerrero in that way. of course one of the initiatives this past off-season was to get younger..well, if Guerrero is hitting and fielding, his eventual promotion to starter would fall into the getting younger category.

can Guerrero play OF? sure, but as last seen Crawford, Ethier, and SVS are doin well enough and all 3 are spring chickens compared to Uribe. they can pretty much just go ahead and begin to transition Uribe into being a bench coach. they'll probably have interest in keeping him around the org after this year to keep Puig in high spirits and of course they signed Uribe's nephew not long ago as well. Rojas role (at best)/bench coach/mascot is how it should shake out for Uribe a month or two from now. show him the proper treatment for a guy of his character and do what's best for the team at the same time.

Guerrero needs game time under his belt to max out what he can be this season, and Uribe won't be playing baseball for the Dodgers next year, so at the end of the day if Guerrero is performing well then they need to see as much as possible. he just needs to keep doin it for a little while longer. do it until they're ready, or as DBB put it in regards to the Guerrero/Uribe thing the other day.." for now "..they trot out a lineup that's not as good as one with Guerrero in it.

yeah, playing the hot bat to help the team is certainly a thing too and Uribe is getting some favor here. agreed. that's the more immediate issue..helping this team win. cannot discount that.

then from a more broad/investment level of thinking..if DBB stumbles and fumbles with a decision in regards to this 3B issue (while Guerrero continues to impress)..i have to assume that the Nerds will step in and say -

" hey, Dum Dum..we're not re-signing Uribe to play baseball for the Dodgers next year and we need to know what kind of value Guerrero has because he indeed is under contract. do we need to formally instruct you to play Guerrero, or can you put these pieces together and figure it out for yourself? "
