Jonathan MayoVerified account@JonathanMayo To help offset those costs, @Dodgers sign seniors Anthony Gonsolin in 9th, Kevin Lachance in 10th, both for 2.5 K each. @MLBDraft --------------- The combined slot for those 2 picks was $320K, so they saved $315K. However, they went over by a combined $70K on Dean Kremers and Brayan Morales (tweets to follow) so net savings is $245K. With the Dodgers now $484,100 under slot, plus $466,824 that they can go over without penalty, and they can go over by $950,924 on Sheffield, Smeltzer, Alexy and Ashcraft, among others. Jonathan Mayo @JonathanMayo 14m14 minutes ago .@Angels give 14th-rder Dean Kremer $147,500. 47.5 K of UNLV RHP's bonus counts toward bonus pool. @MLBDraft ----------- He meant Dodgers Jonathan Mayo @JonathanMayo 12m12 minutes ago .@Dodgers go over 100K again in 15th to sign Brayan Morales ($122,500). 22.5 K counts against bonus pool.
Eric Stephen @truebluela 42s42 seconds ago Dodgers signed 11th-round pick A.J. Alexy ---------------- Will be interesting to see what his bonus is, $500K or more wouldn't shock me.
Jim Callis @jimcallisMLB 1h1 hour ago 11th-rder A.J. Alexy signs w/@Dodgers for $600k ($497,500 vs slot). PA HS RHP, projectable three-pitch guy, 88-92 FB now. @MLBDraft Jim Callis @jimcallisMLB 27m27 minutes ago Jim Callis Retweeted silverwidow No. @Dodgers & @RaysBaseball have an accounting trick that saves them $2,500 on each bonus vs their pool. @MLBDraft
Eric Stephen @truebluela 29m29 minutes ago Dodgers' 5th-round pick J.P. Smelzer received $500,000, per @jphoornstra http://www.insidesocal.com/dodgers/2016/06/22/dodgers-sign-draft-picks-devin-smeltzer-a-j-alexy-joel-toribio/?utm_content=buffer5a56f&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer… (slot was $331,100) Eric Stephen @truebluela 18m18 minutes ago So with Devin Smeltzer (not J.P. Smeltzer, LOL my bad) bonus, Dodgers are $162,300 over slot http://www.truebluela.com/mlb-draft/2016/6/9/11879830/2016-mlb-draft-tracker-dodgers-picks… (counting the "trick") -------------------------------- So they have about $304,000 to spend overslot. Eric Stephen @truebluela 17m17 minutes ago Only Dodgers unsigned pick in the top 10 rounds is No. 36 overall pick Jordan Sheffield, Vanderbilt RHP, with a slot value of $1,791,000
Eric Stephen @truebluela 9m9 minutes ago Eric Stephen Retweeted Jordan Sheffield Dodgers signed No. 36 overall pick, it seems. That would mean everyone signed in top 17 picks except Graham Ashcraft ------------------------------ So Sheffield is signed, the terms will likely determine whether Ashcraft(12th round) is attainable.
Jim Callis @jimcallisMLB 23m23 minutes ago Supp 1st-rder Jordan Sheffield inks w/@Dodgers, $1.85 mil (pick 36 = $1,791,000). Vandy RHP, could be 3 plus pitches, Stroman comp @MLBDraft --------------------- They have about $248K left.
Yep. He has said he will be going to Miss St. http://dodgersdigest.com/2016/06/26...ield-bonus-pool-update-recap-of-rounds-31-40/ So with 27 or 28 picks signed, depending on who you ask, link above says 27 and TrueBlueLA says 28, including their top 13 picks and 16 of 17, it figures to be a quiet deadline day, maybe they sign a HS kid that they picked in the late 30's for the remaining $248K.
Excited about Jordan Sheffield and Lux, but with the amount of picks we had early I thought we would do more. I get they were going after volume, but still really wish we could of gotten Nolan Jones or someone else in Will Smith's spot. Who knows... Will Smith might turn into an all star and this is just a post you can bump to show how wrong I was.
Ol' Willie Smith has that Jason Kendall look about him, showed a lot of growth late after transitioning from the middle infield, they may feel his growth is just scratching the surface. But as a very good athlete, we also know that this FO loves versatile, athletic types, so I imagine they put a good deal of value on him for that. We'll see, they hit the right positions early on for me, not enough catchers at the top of our system that can actually stay at the position, not in that age group
