this will likely sound absurd to some of you
but as good as kershaw is right now
    koufax was better
but clayton still has a lot of time to change that...

Happy 78th birthday to Sandy Koufax, made famous by his name being referenced in the film "The Big
Lebowski." All right, perhaps he made himself famous by winning three Cy Young Awards for the Los
Angeles Dodgers in the span of four seasons in the 1960s and retiring at age 30.

Koufax led the league in ERA from 1962 to 1966 and threw 31 shutouts in the final 150 starts of his
career. Many believe it was the most dominant stretch of pitching in history.

In recent years, Koufax has served as an adviser and spring training instructor for the Dodgers, staying
involved just enough to make everyone happy.

Unless Kershaw pitches us to a ring or two, it will never sound absurd.

When Mickey Mantle steps back from the plate after a Koufax fastball and asks the ump 'How the hell am I supposed to hit that?!' it makes the Kershaw to Koufax comparisons more meaningful.

I don't think we will ever see a pitcher as dominant over a 5-6 year span as Koufax. If Kershaw becomes that pitcher, I will worship him as my god.
